Red-tailed Hawk attacks girl at Fenway Park

I just came across this news release regarding a Red-tailed Hawk attacking a middle school child while on a visit to Fenway Park in Boston. The young girl was treated at the hospital and released.

Wonder if she was an Orioles fan? (Sorry! I could not resist!)

lussah, I spend a lot more time these days photographing the beautiful Baltimore Oriole songbird than I do watching the hapless Oriole baseball team. If a Red-tailed Hawk showed up in Oriole Park at Camden Yards, I would be there.

Ironically, the Red Sox had another famous hawk, a former player known as "The Hawk". Ken Harrelson played for Boston between 1967-1969. Just a little trivia that I'm certain you were just waiting for !!!

Anyway, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Baltimore Oriole songbird and the unique construction of their nesting site. Here is a photo from a previous Spring.

Thats very pretty Linth!

I'm sure the Red-tailed had a reason for doing that but we'll never know what it is.

I'm glad the child is okay; that must have been terrifying!

They mentioned that there was an egg at some point. I thought that it said it had rolled out of the nest and was not properly incubated so it was no longer viable. It may have just been protecting it's nest.

Or, maybe the girl was blocking it's view of home plate. I'd whack someone if they were blocking my view of Varitek. :)

What's a Varitek, Shan71 ? Just kidding !!! I know. He's that guy that's still playing baseball in October ? My Birds (Orioles) head South much earlier in the year.

I'm sure the hawk was just protecting her residence against potential foreclosure agents.

You have to wonder what is going through that poor birds mind...all those people, movement, cameras etc.

Evidently the girl was too close to the nest & the hawk not accustomed to fans in a nearly empty stadium objected. It probably didn't know that ticket prices are up again.

I'd pay the elevated ticket price if she would do that to one of the Yankees! lol

Opening Day at Fenway Park--the hawk is back. Actually it never left the area. The organization had removed the nest with its non-viable egg which was the reason for the original "attack" The hawk was in flight today carrying "dinner" or maybe "lunch" of a mouse. This time it was cheered by the crowd during its flight. Obviously hunting is good enough that it has no notion of leaving.

I saw that! That was awesome. Nice flyby the new seats.
