apricot tree - Puget gold - has anyone in zone 8 tried it?

Portland, OR

I kinda went nuts at One Green World yesterday. I'm a terrible plant junkie. Anyway, my husbands only request was that I plant an apricot tree for him, so I bought Puget Gold. Has anyone tried this and had success? I live in zone 8 - portland, oregon.

thanks......anne

Your Husbands? LOL
I don't know of a Apricot, that grows here, and I love them. What zone did they say on the tag? If its this zone I want one. PLMK.

Anne - check out Raintree's website for fruit info.
Here's the Puget Gold apricot: http://www.raintreenursery.com/catalog/productdetails.cfm?ProductID=C460

I haven't, but I applaud your efforts to get your husband's attention. I'm guessing that they'll just need lots of sun - you might augment that by putting them up next to a foundation or something that will reflect sunlight back on them and let them get good and warm. I would guess the hard part is getting the fruit to ripen up here. And then, of course, overwintering, which I would think you'd need to do inside or in a GH.

Interested in hearing about how it works!!

katye, thanks for the link - it's encouraging! At any rate, I'm willing to give it a try if it will please my HUSBAND ( I only have one ----- at least, I only have one at a time!) . tillysrat, the web site said zones 5 to 9, so maybe I'll get lucky. If it doesn't make it, I'll plant something else there next year. There are so many fruit trees I want to try. I'm also planting two asian pears and a couple of columnar apples. Does anyone have any suggestions for this area?

thanks

Raintree is good at helping with types of fruit trees that do well in different areas.
