I'm looking for some witty input from all of DG's poultry lovers here... Let's see how creative you all are. :)
Over the past 1-1/2 years, my chickens, who apparently are significantly overweight, have jumped up and down, up onto/into and down from, their nesting boxes and roosts and have landed so hard, so many times, on the wire flooring in their coop that the flooring has fallen through in one area. (I replaced that area with wood flooring to get me by for now, until I can buy new flooring)
.....Anyways, it has been suggested (tongue-in-cheek) that I put up a sign inside the coop, informing my chickens that they can no longer jump up and down inside the coop. So, being the "Far Side" fan that I am, I thought it would be funny for my visitors to see such a sign. Naturally, the sign would be bilingual ~ written in English, and Chicken-Scratch. ;)
HERE is where I need YOUR input!! ...Any clever ideas as to what my sign should say?????
I can't wait to see what you all come up with! Can't wait to see my visitors' reactions when they see the sign. lol

Need ideas for a sign - Chickens: No Jumping In The Coop!
How about a sign showing a chicken jumping off her nest and into a cat's wide open mouth? Caption could read something like "Henny was always living life on the edge" ala Far Side style.

You know Molly, it's funny you thought of that because my cats and chickens have a Far Side relationship, you could say....
Both my cats grew up with chickens from the time they were baby kittens, and they (my cats and chickens) live together as one big happy family (don't worry, I still keep my eyes on the cats, just in case, and I make sure my cats always have cat food available). My cats will purr and rub up against the chickens while they're grazing in the yard, and my chickens will go right up to the cats and sniff noses (beak to nose). ...Anyways, the other night I went out to close the chickens' door to the coop - everyone was inside and accounted for, but what I didn't expect to see was Tom (one of my cats) was setting in the middle of the coop floor, staring underneath the feeder, waiting for a mouse to show up. I watched them all for a while. Tom patiently waiting and concentrating, and half the chickens up on the roosts, going to sleep, and the bantams settled down on the coop floor for the night. Everyone seemed happy and content. The chickens did not care one bit that Tom was in there with them. ....So, I called Tom's name and out he came so that I could lock them up for the night. Bizarre huh?
Please don't jump on the bedding.

Very bizarre! Hope no stray cats get in your yard!!! Chickens will feel so betrayed!

well, i see a sign with a chicken and springs [like bedsprings] on the bottom of their feet, with a red circle and line through it. would also work with a pogo stick... no words necessary...
originally i thought of a house rules sign, which could apply to person, cat or chick, including wiping of feet, leaving eggs IN box, no egg-eating, no hen-pecking, no jumping on your bed, no nocturnal hunting. kinda like you tell your kids every day. oh, and must take daily dust bath for hygeniec purposes... no spilling feed on the floor. i hate it when i buy bir lovers blend, and they pick out all the sunflower seeds and in the process spill out all that wonderful millet, waiting till they are really hungry to clean it up. absolutley NO perching on the waterers... no pooping in the nesting boxes. gee, i could on with all the NONOs in my hen house, but do they listen? NO!
i can also see a hen with a headset to an ipod or mp3 player, exercising on a trampoline... please use appropriate equipment.
i just gotta LMBO and tell DH about "Falling Rocks"...
i got my son a far side claendar, think i'll go through and look for ideas.
you could market and sell the signs, you know LOL

You know, now i am gonna have to make one too. Just finished browsing my son's calendar. He says there is only one chicken cartoon in there, and it's not applicable, but i didn't find it. wonder if there is a far side web site?
i have all kinds of plans for signs around here, just not a priority until summer when things slow down around here! and i have more daylight!
too bad you can't threaten them with thumb tacks on the floor LOL
