help with containers on a balcony

Pueblo West, CO(Zone 5b)

I had to give up my beautiful home and now live in an apartment complex that is very strict on what’s allowed out on the balconies and patios here. They have agreed to allow me to keep most of my containers although not in the 5 gallon buckets that I was using.

They’ve told me I have to go out and purchase real flower pots that I know are costly. My concern is that when I water my containers, they will drip down on my neighbor’s patio furniture, grill, and other stuff. I don’t want this to happen.

I was wondering if anyone has some creative/inexpensive ideas of how to water large containers up on a balcony and not cause dripping and damage to the property below.

Thanks to all.

Saucers?

Plant the plants in one pot and then inset that pot into a larger one that will hold the water run off. Hope that helps...

Home Depot and Lows have clear plastin deep saucers in their Garden Dept.

Big Lots has great prices on large containers and saucers also. I know some do not care for them but I love the foam pots because they are so inexpensive, lightweight and easily moved. You might also consider hitting all the garage sales, looking for both containers and saucers or shallow bowls that will keep things from dripping. Old pie plates work well depending on the size of your container. In the meantime you might consider disguising the 5 gallon buckets with something "found". I once saw a container that was loosely wrapped with burlap and it was tied up with jute string. Rustic but stunning at the same time.
