Lady Finger Peas Available

Tallahassee, FL

I bought 3 lbs of Lady Finger Peas not realizing how many that would be. I have just a small backyard garden, so there are lots left. If anyone wants a handful for their garden (SASE), send me a dmail. I don't have internet access every day, so please understand if I don't reply immediately.

Sending you a DMail.

I googled them to see what they were and where they would grow but I can't find anything on them. Will they grow here in zone 6? If so, I would like to try them. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

I am not sure what zones are best. They are described only as a "southern" pea. It won't hurt to try them. I have received several dmails. I will answer them all this weekend.

It is a small white pea, similar to White Acre. should grow anywhere a cream pea will grow. At least south of the Mason-Dixon line. White Acre is the more popular here, but still see a few Ladys around. Good flavor, good producer, tedious to shell, as a green shelling pea. Really need the pea sheller for these.

Can you let them dry on the bush and then shell them?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Of course, If one wants dried peas, you just let them get good and dry, stuff them in a burlap sack, beat the sack with a limber stick. Folks use to do this all the time with peas, dry shelling beans, and lima beans. Works well. I use mostly green shell peas however.

These are White Acre, but very similar.

The peas are very tasty, very small, and cream colored with a darker eye. They are good green, frozen or dried.

Had my first blackeyes this weekend. Shelling was just a joy. And if that just didnt do the trick, the green peanuts are in so I have already had mine and everyone elses serving of boiled peanuts lol. White acres are to be in this friday, yum. Back in the day, i central fl., we used to call those 'conk' peas. Now if I just could get a big enough piece of property to grow some butter beans and all the rest of my veggies.

I know what you mean about needing room for growing. I have all my flower beds planted with veggies. I have more plants than space so I am thinking of asking for a row in a couple of friends big gardens for things like corn, okra and peas.

These are my bush beans and squash. I had to put sevin dust on them to keep the cut worms at bay. I lost 4 bean plants in 1 night.
