Rescues...Our stories and advice

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I recently posted about my new Great Dane rescue Maddie now officially known as "Sydney" I thought this would be a good thread for stories and advice and pictures. I know quite a few of you do rescue...Here is a letter I received this morning from the MAGDL about Sydney...

"You may not remember me, but I did your initial interview. I wanted to thank you for adopting Maddie. I transported her to her foster home, and she broke my heart. I know you will love her and let her be the magnificent Dane she is meant to be. Kisses to Atticus. Please keep in touch. If I can help with anything, please do not hesitate to contact me.
The story is horrendous. The man who owned Sydney had all his Danes living in a tool shed, simply for breeding purposes. The last six Danes he had all died of heat suffocation. Sydney was with a Harlequin Dane that she adored. He took her under his wing. When I transported them, she had to lean against him. Sydney was one of the four recent Danes that this idiot owned. They were all emaciated, filled with worms, they had rashes from laying in their own urine. One of them had marks from a beating. Two of the Danes had HOD. Two other rescues took two Danes and MAGDRL took two. He was trying to sell the Danes initially, but no one would buy the Danes. A girl who knows him personally convinced him to give the Danes up to rescue. He lives somewhere up by Hazleton. The Danes went to a temporary foster home until they could be transported to their foster homes. I wanted him prosecuted also, but when someone relinquishes ownership, it is difficult to convict them. I also think rescue groups do not want to get involved with prosecution because it is so expensive. We need the money to care for the dogs, especially the sick ones. Keep in touch, tell you husband thanks too!"

Here is Sydney once again...Any advice on extreme shyness in an adult dog and how I can help her overcome it would be wonderful.
