I had very good results last year by soaking my big box store glads in Lysol water last year. NO Thripes! I picked up a pack of mixed glads to add to my existing planting again this year. All I have on hand though is Mr. Clean. I think it's pretty similar to lysol, it's a disinfectant too. My question is, Is there any reason I couldn't use Mr. Clean in place of the Lysol?
Thank you.

Question about Glads
I've never had a problem with new bulbs, which I think have already had some kind of treatment.. but I have had problems with bulbs that i've overwintered, and planted without soaking in anything. I'd like to know what is a good to soak them in as well! Sarah
I've had problems with thripes on the glads I purchased from the big box stores in the past. I remember reading on a forum somewhere that others were too. They recommended soaking the bulbs in a gallon of water with 2 tbs. of Lysol added to it for about 6 hours before planting. I did this last year and had beautiful Glads with no thripes.
I found the answer to the question of my post doing an online search. It said you can use any disinfectant.

Sounds good- I can't imagine there are huge differences between the disinfectant soaps! Thrips are no fun for gladiolas, thats for sure.
