It’s time to announce the second annual South East Texas Tomato Fest (SETTFest)!
What is it?
A gathering of tomato growers and their friends who want to share and taste different varieties of homegrown tomatoes.
When is it?
June 21, 2008
Setup is at 11am
Tasting begins at Noon.
Where is it?
Washington on the Brazos state park
20 minutes from Brenham, TX
Who will be there?
Tomato gardeners, farmers, and their friends from Texas and surrounding areas.
We are currently working on updating the SETTFest website ( http://www.settfest.com/ ) to contain maps and information about this year's event. Be sure to check out SETTFest.com for last year's event photos!!
If you are planning to attend, it would be helpful to us if you could fill out the Survey ( http://www.settfest.com/survey.html ), including listing any food items you plan to bring. Iced Tea, Diet Sodas, and Water will be provided, as well as Greek Pasta Salad (we'll pick the best tomatoes and cucumbers and make it right there!). The survey helped us with planning last year.
South East Texas Tomato Fest (SETTFest) 2008
Can you believe we are a little over 2 weeks away from the 2nd annual South East Texas Tomato Fest?
Please fill out the Survey at http://www.SETTFest.com/ if you are planning to attend.
You can download and print the 2008 SETTFest Flyer which also contains driving directions to the event:
http://www.settfest.com/settfest2008flyer_5gcolor.pdf
You can contact us through the website if you have any questions about getting to the event or any other questions such as lodgings in the area. We are working quickly to add maps to the event.
Hope to see you all there!
It sounds very fun, but we are cutting down a tree that weekend, and so we won't be able to make it. Hopefully next year we can come.

Do you have to bring tomotoes? I am new to the area and wanted to do some tomato tasting to see what I can grow next year. I can bring food though.
You do not need to bring tomatoes this time around. :) Look forward to seeing you there!
We have it on our calendar and are hoping to come. :-)
Marylyn and others, really looking forward to seeing you there! We will have a lot of great varieties to taste at the event. I will probably be bringing 60-90 vars. Won't know for sure what and how many it will be until later in the week, until I assess what will be at the right stage of ripeness to bring.
Morgan (feldon) has also been given permission to "raid" the garden of a Pasadena grower who grows over 300 plants and set up table(s) for him "in absentia". Unfortunately, he will not be able to attend the event as he is on vacation in Alaska.
And of course, others will also be bringing tomatoes.
Everyone is welcome. Bring what you can (supplies, drinks, food, and other vegetables are always appreciated too), but if you've had a bad season, or just aren't growing tomatoes this year, we'd still love to have you!
For a sampling of what I plan on bringing (again based on what is at the right stage of ripeness), see:

I am mostly just bothering to do variety/plate shots for the new-to-me (or favorite) ones this yr, as I've taken pics of my old favorites in the past.

Oh, bummer... dh has to work, so we can't come. :-( Maybe next year. Have a great time!
The photos from the South East Texas Tomato Fest 2008 event are now online!

We would like to thank our photographer Tim H. who went above and beyond and photographed every single plate of tomatoes from everyone who brought them. All told, 174 unique tomato varieties were present at the 2008 SETTFest event.
A special thanks to Michael (known online as Deer Park) for allowing me to pick tomatoes from his tomato farm and present them at SETTFest. I'm hoping that he'll be able to present his tomato varieties in person at next year's event!
