Last year I finally got some Koi for my pond and really enjoyed them. It was kind of a bumpy ride and lost a few and then had green water for a while but towards the end of the year I really had a great time watching them.
Since we get freezing weather for several months at a time I put a stock tank heater in which quit within six weeks. Of course the pond froze on the top so I could not get it back out for quite a while. I was really worried that my poor koi had all suffocated and died.
I was out today and managed to see each fish! They are all accounte for! YIPPEE Even my baby Mizzou has been found. Mizzou was the black and gold one that I had to perform fish cpr on last year when he/she decided to jump out of the pond while I was away at work one day. I am so glad that one made it.
I do have a question though. Since the defective heater was left in the water for a while everthing looks orange like it had started to rust. I have two filters in there. One is submerged and one is above ground and they quickly become filled with what looks like an orange slime. Is this a combination of rust and last years algea? Are my fish safe or will this do them in?
Everyone is accounted for! YAAY!
Glad to hear all of your fish are fine! I don't know about the orange, though... hopefully someone else here will.
