Ok I am doing a field trip tomorrow to SFA with one of the middle school chorus' anybody live near by?
I have looked on the maps and it takes 1 1/2 hours roughly to get there and we leave at 9am ish and are to return around 4pm ish so that means I have from 11 - 2 I think to sit there on the bus.
There are other drivers going but I have no idea what they are planning but a few of them are rather "loud" and I ma not into running around to places to eat if I can wander through a garden or look at flowers and plants or something LOL
Otherwise I am sitting on my bus with my lunch bag and some magazines and my quilt squares LOL

Mibus ~ I'm not nearby nor will I be off work but wish I were. By all means don't waste the day! Can you drive the bus around? Does it have to be within walking distance?
SFA (the college) has Stephen F Austin Mast arboretum. I've never been to the Arboretum so not good on directions but... http://davesgarden.com/products/go/view/236/
Also the Ruby Mize Azalea Gardens. The Azalea trails should be lovely right now. It has lots of walking paths and I believe even benches so bring your lunch! The Azalea gardens are located on University Drive.
Nacogdoches also has a few greenhouses but I'll bet traveling via bus will be out of the question. This one sounds pretty neat. http://davesgarden.com/products/go/view/33/
Hope you have a safe trip and enjoy the day... Sorry I cannot join you! pod
Well gee I was hoping you would say you were free ...I really have no idea who is where I never go look through the info on the site ...but figured someone would answer me and now I have to print things out to take along just in case I can get away.
and as for taking the bus ..hahaha...that's my other car so what the hey why not drive it if I can
Aah to be free to sightsee... when someone else is buying the gas! LOL The only other east Texas gardeners I know of are in Lufkin ~ Aggiegirl and one out of east Nacogdoches... have a name block there.
I do hope you have a large day! 8 )

I love to go to Nac. and the SFA gardens. You can spend all of your day just there. They have great collections of natives, azaleas and Jap. maples. Also love several of the nurseries there. Cook's Nursery is just west of town on Hwy. 21, I think, that is great. Several others also. I can not get to all of the places I like there in a day. Of course, I take a long look at things.
Have a great day. When you come through Jacksonville, I am near the Love's Lookout area. Wish you could stop here as I could load you up with things.

Just saw this post, hope this is not too late. The SFA gardens, as Dde says will be a great tour. The Mize Azalea Garden has a path that runs through SFA and leads to the Native Plant Center.Throughout, there's plenty to look at and you'll walk on comfortable walkways. Stop in the Horticulture Dept and see Dawn Stover. She'll talk to you about the upcoming SFA plant sale. Have a great day.
