Hi I am new to gardening. I have seen many posts on Brugs and decided to check them out. They are beautiful flowers. I am wondering if anyone has seeds that I can start one from. I am in NE PA and would probably have to move it indoors in the winter but it would be well worth it. THanks

Brug Seeds

Okay, sorry I have been away so long guys. Don't expect to be visiting here on a regular basis as I do have a new precious baby that needs tons of care and hospital drives are taking their toll. I have agreed to send a few buckets of cuttings, mostly double candida cuttings, solid gold, etc to a member here to celebrate the birth of the new one. She has agreed to send a very few out to others and perhaps some seeds as well. Just have to toss in some seedpods. Perhaps we will get lucky and she can post some seedpods for you guys as these will be unopened. I don't expect her to send everyone free cuttings and seeds, but I do expect her to send a few out and be generous in her trades. In other words she has agreed to trade these out to other members and keep a few as well which I insisted on. Thanks so much everyone and I hope everything continues to grow here as this is my favorite forum.
BRUGMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its good to see you!!!

I'm also new to this Brug and Datura plants. I have a question. I have alittle green pod type thing on one of mine. What in the world do I do with it? I'm really green at this sort of thing as you can tell and feel embarrassed for asking about this pod looking thing. My DH thought it was a funny growth coming out of the plant.Do I break it off or what do I do. HELP!!!!!!!!
All My Best
CoCo
coco, more info... is it long, or roundish? what kind of brug. i think you are supposed to pick when you can feel the seeds moving around inside.... have you looked at the brug page? that would be really nice to have seeds!! don't pick too soon, someone will be by soon who knows.....
It's a roundish little thing and don't have any idea what kind of brug it is. Was sent to me.The little pod is about a inch or so long and green. The seeds are really in that little green thing? When it bloomed it had yellow trumpets on it.I know, it isn't much help but like I said, I know nothing about these type of plants.
if you don't hear, email glory or KHT, i am sure they won't mind. i know they both have seed experience....i think they can take 3-4 months to mature, hopefully it won't fall off. you are so lucky, i hear they rarely set seed without hand pollination
Sorry ~~ I don't care right now if it's shaped like a Volkswagen!!! Eric!! Congratulations! A new Papa!! We're all so relieved! Life is good! A whole lot of exclamation marks but am so happy to see you back- even if for a bit. I apologize to the people above who have legitimate questions.
But I'm so happy to see him back
Liz, Arlene has pictures of seedpods from suaveolens, versicolor, and aurea type seedpods from my plants/hybrids so hopefully you will all get to see what some of the different species seedpods look like. These are all seedpods I wanted posted as I had never bothered to take pictures of them before now. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and I hope at least a few people get some Brugs going this year from my collection. I was going to give out a few seedpods but they are quite ready. Perhaps a bit later.--Sorry for double posting the same info-just excited that Arlene has offered to post these pictures for everyone. Just wish I hadn't been so busy as some grasshopper damage is apparent in some of these pictures.

Welcome home Brugmansia!!!!!
Arlene,
I too leave my seed pods on the plant until I can feel the seeds inside...so far it has worked but there must be a better way to tell if they are ready..tell us Brugmansia.
Another question....there is a seed pod on a Brug in the ground and it is going to freeze in the next day or so...what do I do with the pod if it's not ready to pick? So far I haven't had that problem but I'm sure others have.
Pick the whole Branch Glory-set it in water and let it root or if it does not water root easily try a loose soil that drains well and simply place in water until it revives each time from wilting but don't let it wilt too much. Seed pods picked early will germinate a few seeds generally, but the longer they are allowed to mature the better as always unless they mature to the point of rotting which I have had happen before. Hope this helps in time.

Burgman,
You said pick the whole bunch...do you mean I should leave the seed pod on the branch and cut a part of the branch to try and root the branch that the pod is hanging on? Sometimes I'm very slowwwwww in understanding. LOL
Glory,
Yes, leave the seedpod on the branch and root the branch. Of course your still going to want to remove the vast majority of leaves and your going to have to baby it a lot more than your regular cuttings. Allowing it to almost wilt and then refresh it with a drink at the most oportune moment. Keep up the great hybridizing Glory.
Brugman,
Thanks..I'll add that info to the rest you have given us on hybridizing....I have printed it all.
