Howdy from Houston!

Humble, TX

I got hooked on Dave's Garden by the idea of the trading plants, and have been amazed at how helpful the plant files have been as well.

My husband and I bought our first house a month before I got pregnant with our daughter Gemma. Now that she has turned one, I finally have the time and energy to have the garden I have wanted.

I also have a small 3' by 15' garden at school to help my first graders learn about gardening and seed collecting.

I grew up gardening in both Lubbock and East Texas. I was curious to know what plants grow well in my area, and I also wanted to try heirloom and organic vegetable gardening.

Any other Houston or Aggie gardeners out there?

Hi Madrid. I’m not from Texas, but just wanted to say “welcome!” I am relatively new and still trying to find my way around here too, but I did notice a Texas Gardening forum at http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/region_tx/all/ I’ll bet you’ll find you’ll find people from Houston over there :-).

Welcome to Dave's Garden, madrid2000! Gemma's adorable. :-) I have 2 daughters, ages 4 and 6.

There are a lot of us Houston-and-vicinity gardeners in the Texas Gardening Forum. I hope you wander over and join us. Do you like daylilies? There is going to be a bunch of us gathering for a daylily sale/nursery hop on May 10th in the Heights area of Houston. You can read more here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/815014/

Welcome to DG!

I do love daylilies and was seriously thinking of joining everyone for the daylily sale/nursery hop. I will have to see when my husband's finals are over to see if I can come alone or if I will have to bring Gemma.

I have also enjoyed reading everyone's posts to the Texas Gardening Forum. I am waiting for some of my bulbs to bloom so I can post them and see if anyone can identify them.

If you can take off next weekend (April12th), there will be a Round-Up in College Station. A whole bunch of us from the greater Houston area will be there.

Bring the family.

Oh, and leave enough room in the vehicle to take home some plants.

Welcome aboard.

Make that LOTS of plants! :-)

Maybe next year.... I keep thinking of all the wonderful plants there will be, and if I had started earlier, I could have had something to trade.

You really don't need to bring any plants. Everyone will be happy to meet you and you'll still go home with lots of the extras. :-) Just bring something yummy - and preferably chocolate - to share. LOL

Thanks for encouraging me to go. I had a great time. It was better than Christmas with all those free and wonderful plants that I brought home. Now I just have to find a great place to put them in.
