I couldn't resis snapping this picture of my son with one of the chickies today. His big "treat" before going to bed is holding a few different chicks, and it's interesting to see the different temperaments and personalities already! Last night, he held a buff laced polish (the "poodle" babies, my daughter calls them), and that chickie was restless at first, but then snuggled against him...next what I *think* was a Wyandotte, and it did not want to sit still...and lastly he held a Light Brahma and she was so calm and actually perched on his finger and fell asleep (which we thought was hysterical)....so a little while ago he was kicked back on the couch with this little one and it was obviously quite comfy up on his shoulder (I'm thinking she's a partridge rock). Anyway...just thought I'd share something cute...

Sometimes photo-ops are irresistable
can't tell which is cuter, the chick or the son!

What a sight. Are those barred rocks?
They look nothing like our black australorps. They actually sent you those for australorps? They look more like barred rocks or dominiques.
oh, i called them right away and left a message, it was Saturday. they didn't call back. i called again T or W, and since i had purchased them from the feed store that they shipped them too, they would do nothing. i had already had a head to head with the feed store when i drove 80 miles to pick up 10 pullets and had to buy 20 striaght run, and they all had big spots on top of their head. i was pretty insistent about "are you sure?", and they are a new feed store, but said "Privett says so..., so they MUST be..."
by one week they had barred feathers, so i told DH i wasn't driving another 80 miles to get my money back, we would just eat them, and of course one became a pet, one was sold and became someone else's pet. so the three upllets are for sale and the rest will be eaten.
i left a bad review for Privett in GWD. they were so rude over the phone. i wasn't demanding anything except just to know what they might have shipped because they looked like sex links... bad customer service, they refused to have any info of that type, and said "talk to the feed store"...
the feed store will be paying a little more for their chicks but getting them from a Texas hatchery like Ideal or Xtreme.
sorry, off subject, gotta vent sometimes..
so the short story is "Privett Hatchery shipped them as BAs. we are raising them as sex-links"
but they are cute and sweet and not-so-bright!

Oh what a mess. At least they are sweet even if they have a dull bulb upstairs.
Well, I will take a picture of my BLACK AUSTRALORPS when they get their feathers on. At least we do know they are BAs, unless there is a RIR mix there from Rocky. So far, they all look like BAs. And I wanted a Rocky mix, too.
no white spots on top of their head eh? maybe then LOL congrats on your hatches!!!
Yes, they do have white spots on their heads. But, we have all BAs with the exception of Rocky, and so far not seeing any that might be his. Will have to wait till they get bigger. Did check the pics at McM to make sure and they look exactly like them. LOL
umm, may i ask what color Rocky is? i forget...
more iressistable photos?
He's a RIR. Red, gold-red, and red. LOL
BTW, 14...lol
