OK, maybe you can give me some advice. I bought a Hardy Begonia last year, and it looked just great. I didn't know to take it out of the ground (hardy is hardy, right?), so I left it in the ground and just took some of the little bulblets that were on the parent stem. I kept them in the fridge all winter, and now I've put the bulblets in potting soil under a light, but nothing yet. Can I get anything out of them? I NOW know that the right way to propigate is by cuttings. *Sigh*, live and learn. Does anyone have any experience with the bulblets?

The B. grandis bulbils will sprout when they are ready so don't rush them. Not sure how hardy "hardy" is zone wise, but they do indeed come back here. Mine aren't as nice as others I've seen (and bought) but they seem to have a mind of their own so I enjoy them for what they are - plants best left outside to fend for themselves with no fuss or muss.

Thanks, I'll stop staring at them so much. According to the Plant Files it should be hardy in my zone, so we'll see what happens. I never knew begonias could have so many forms, they really are facinating! By the way, GA Girl, those are really lovely!

Hey, hcmcdole, you were right! The bulblets finally started showing some life about a month ago, and they're far enough along that I feel OK putting them in the ground. It might be too early to see the ones come back in the garden, but I know there are a bunch that were there last fall. Thanks for your advice, I might have just tossed them, and that would have been a shame.

Good to know that Drumlin. I have several hardy begonias that have come up but have a long way to go to match some I've seen.

Hoo boy, if those are coming up from being outside all winter, you're way ahead of mine! The ones I started inside aren't even that big! They look like they'll be Grande, alright.
