Tahitian Jasmine

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Anyone hear of this? First hand knowledge of scent?

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

I know of tahitian gardenia but not of jasmine.

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

yes. It is very fragrant. Reminds me of a combination of jasmine and gardenia. Once I loose my reputation as a gardenia killer, I plan to buy one!!LOL!!

Anyone know who carries this except Tops? I have my buddy (hopefully) checking on seeds if they ship to the states.

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

yes. alohatropicals has them. Not sure about Logees.

Chantell, I also have Gardenia vietnamensis that smells just wonderful. Had it about a year and collected my first seeds the other weekend. If you are interested, check back with me in a few weeks and I will let you know what happened with the seeds. Just had a major flush, so I am hoping to collect a lot more later on.

You are incredible...thank you for keeping me in mind...I'll try to put a reminder some place for me!!

If it goes well, I'll probably post something in the seed trade section.

Wonder if there would be an interest in tahitian gardenia seeds?

Chantell, add me on to your Tahitian Gardenia seeds interest. Nicole

I am very interested in seed if you ever get any. If your plant is big enough, I would also take a cutting or an air layer.

f4f - here is the co-op for these seeds: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/828336/

I bought a 1 gallon Tahitian gardenia plant at Rareflora.com (Gardino's Nursery) about a month and a half ago. It has grown about 10% and now has seven buds. It seems really happy in its original pot, so I have not transplanted it. I cannot wait for those buds to open - I have been visiting the plant every morning and sending it very positive thoughts in hopes it will hurry up and bloom!

Lucky you!!! A friend blessed me with a plant as well - I have it in a 6" pot...don't think it has any buds yet though. Please be sure to post pics when your's opens, though - ok?

I am very embarrased to admit I haven't sown my seeds yet. wonder if it's too late now.

Though lovely flowers, I was a little underwhelmed by the fragrance

Thats strange Bec_No_Va, the scent on my Tahitian Gardenia is quite powerful, maybe its the humidity here that brings out the beautiful scent.

Yours isnt blooming Chantell? I thought you had a big enough one otherwise I would have got one for you when I was at the USF Plant Sale.

By the way did you get my dmail? Did you want me to send that Chinese perfume plant to you?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Just dmailed you back...been a tad crazy here...life in generally. You are so sweet! Becky got me one (Tahitian Gardenia) when she got her's. It's plenty big enough (in a 6" pot)...just takin' it's good ole time that's all. Doesn't want to bloom while the rest of them are...LOL.

OMG , all my seeds germinated. I'm so scared,I don't know what to do next. Obviously, they like it warm but now that the evenings are in the low 60s, I'm wondering how to best care for them.

I couldn't find the coop thread. I will appreciate comments from those who now have seedlings from these seeds. I'm so excited but so scared I will lose them. I'm generally too impatient to do seeds, and now that these have done well, well...

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

Hmm, well once mine germinated they were a little slow going. I would not let them drop below 50 degrees- not only because they may be more tender when they are that little but also so you can try to keep the growth going through the winter. When you plant them I would use a mix with peat and or high organic content. Good luck!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

thanks f4f, I I have warm spot for them in DH's workshop I will do as you suggest. sure would hate to lose them.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

AHhhh Nery...how exciting for you!!!!! ^_^ Proud Mama, eh?

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Can I send you my seeds and you can germinate them for me?

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

Can the tahitian gardenia be hand pollinated? I just brought mine in for the winter and it has a few new blooms. I have never seen a seed pod on it. It blooms on and off mid to late summer. Has anyone had any luck with cuttings? Thanks Joan
