We have a mushroom business nearby & they give truckloads of free mushroom compost away for free in early May. I've used it before & thought it was great, but have been told it is not good to amend flowerbed with it because it is too salty. Anyone have some experience with it? Is it really bad for roses?

Mushroom Substrate (compost) - ok for roses??
Joannabanna this article talks about the salt http://squtch.quiet-like-a-panther.org/story/mushroom_compost-34. I'm using it in a new bed this year but will mix with my own compost and soil. I think the key is the ratio of compost to soil as with manure and having good drainage too.
Thanks Leslie. The link goes to a page not found though. I have used the mushroom substrate a few years ago & it did wonders for the flowerbeds. The concern I have is the roses. Not sure if it would affect them negatively.
