I planted two passion vines last year and had so many gulf frit caterpillars that I had to buy another plant. So I have three plants planted from last year. I know it is still early but no showing of coming back up this year. Just wanted to know if they should return this year. Our winter was not extremely harsh and maybe they are slow to come back, I just don't know. Any help is always appreciated.
Thanks
Leslie
Will my passi come back?
Mine always were slow coming back. I am not familiar with that Catepillar, it would be worth the peace of mind to look up its breeding cycle to see how destructive it can be to your vines espec. if thats their host plant. Maybe someone in the insect forums can help on that tip; but mine always came back real slow even if it only dropped into the 30s, they'd start right from the bottom foot of the plant or the ground in a different place, and I am still waiting myself; not looking good for me, might have to buy another as well...
but good luck!!!!

The orange frittalary (sp) caterpilar just eats the leaves late in the summer/early fall when the plant is about to go dormant anyway. They should not affect the plant coming back the next year.
I haven't had frittilaries yet this year here in Florida. Maybe it just isn't time for them. As far as the plants, call out to other Texans and see if they have plants popping back up yet from winter
Thanks guys. I did not even think the cats might have done more damage to my plant than just eating the leaves. I figured they just ate the leaves and then come spring it would come back. I guess I will wait awhile longer and if nothing happens I will break down and buy another one. Thanks for all the great advice.

Mine have come back already and I constantly have the gulf frits eating mine. They have been attacking for about 2-3 weeks already and will continue until Nov.
