Canada Geese

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

The geese stick around most of the year, but in the spring (the calendar states that it is spring) we get thousands of migraters adding to the noise and celebration of spring.

I walked down to the edge of the water this morning in front of the house, to the dismay of the geese, that edged away from me one step for every step I took. But I did get a few pictures to share.

Here they are leaving cute webbed prints on the ice and snow.

Here is another shot of the group.

In a couple weeks the stumps will be full of nests and those very large goose eggs.

When I zoomed in, I shook a little and the pictures are not the clearest. But here is a close up of a pair that look like love birds.

Well, that is all the honkers for now. Hope you liked them.

Thanks
They are not that easy for me to get a picture of either. As the pictures were downloading. I walked out in the kitchen and looked out and the darned things were up on the bank. (about 20 of them)
Squirrels were running around them, birds flying all over and my camera stuck to the computer.
Ha.

Cparts...Really nice pics of the Canada Geese...we have them here year round also and I love to watch them. I also love the visual of all the commotion and your camera tied up on the computer!! Seems like I've lost more than one neat pic that way! LOL!

Yes thanks, you would understand.
I have 4 large windows in my kitchen that face the water. It becomes quite a distraction sometimes.
I was just walking by and there were geese, common mergansers, and ducks scurried around. I then saw a large bird that I thought at first glance was a bald eagle. The birds were very upset.
I grabbed the binoculars and he made another pass. It was a young golden eagle!

We have had several bald and juvies here. Once for a couple weeks 3 years ago we had a golden eagle. But this one. YIPES. I am excited.

I got a very good look, did not know what it was. Looked in the book that had a very good picture of his underside markings and description of markings. I am 99.9% sure.

This bird was an eagle. He had a large white spot (solid) on each wing on the underside, plus the tail was white at the base and a dark band at the end. Just exactly like the picture!

I am so geeked!!! I can't wait to tell the hubby.
Glad I walked by the window when I did. I hope he sticks around. (I am so excited I am shaking) LOL

Wow C!! How exciting...I would be geeked too! I can't walk from one room to the other without getting distracted by something going on in the yard and it sounds like you have a wonderful place to get distracted! I hope your Golden comes back and you can get some pics...I know you will be watching! LOL!

Thanks. Still excited.
I should grab the camera first. Those guys are so fast though, then they settle on a tree on the other side of the lake where there are no houses. Hard to take pictures with my equipment. (and with my mouth agape)

LOL ! Believe me I know the feeling!! You are so funny but believe me I understand COMPLETELY!! My DH is very supportive of my addiction but I don't think he "gets it"...it really takes another birder!! Congratulations...I think it is wonderful!!
