I am trying to contact a guy in my town (greenfield ma) about his marans......when i read that he also has BLRW's. So i wondered if you might want me to ask about eggs???

See if it is possible to get any photos of his breeders, or at least try to find out where they came from. I have decided that I want to stay away from the MMH stock due to the breeding in of the GLW. Any help would be appreciated, thanks...Scott

I am working on it. Would you Dmail me your email so i can send pics if i get them. I actually found another source because the guy i mentioned has not gotten back to me. The woman did not get hers from MMH......she got hers from 2 different breeders.

what kind of maran eggs can u find? i need a breeder without a waiting list the size of my arm,lol. if u get any good leads would love the help. so far i have cuckoo eggs, definately want pure color and purebred copper blacks at least.

Well, I dont know if this guy is ever going to email me. I really want a cuckoo. What i would have loved, is to find someone local with eggs in a bator. Then i could buy one and put it under the broody i have thats already on eggs. Otherwise i would have to do more than one so its got a friend or 2. I will let you know if i ever hook up with this guy because he is very proud and he has black copper. I saw a persons page that has blue copper. I loved that look. I'll Dmail you if i get that info silkie. MEANWHILE..... i am just waiting for maineiac to dmail me an email addy so i can send these pics i got of the breeding adults of the BLRWs. I will be working 9 hrs today so if i cant send them within the next 45 min.......it will be after 6pm til i can do it.

Cuckoo you have d-mail and I will also be in Keene on April 13th I can leave some there for you too if you cannot make it when I am there. (I might even have an extra pullet! if you want one) I ended up with two roos and three pullets, I ended up losing two, I knew one was weak, I had to help him out but the other was a suprise. Everyone else is happy and getting bigger by the day!

Hey Scott........I dont know how far into maine you are, but there was an ad for BLRW eggs and/or chicks in my area on CL.
A friend of mine is looking into getting some. She will be asking for pictures of the adults tomorrow and she said she would send them to me if she is able to get them. The town is Montague Ma and if its anything you are interested in, let me know.

my cuckoo maran eggs from my 1st set hatched 2 days early. i have 3 out of 4 eggs. i had polish in from the same breeder got 7 babies from them outta 9 eggs. looks like the cuckoos r a pullet not shanked and 2 roos who r shanked. they r all adorable!! i may have got that wrong but girls r darker and boys r lighter right? i have another batch in from same breeder not sure when due yet i gotta look see what day they go in the hatcher. they r all really cute babies and kid's r really excited we got new babies again,lol.

silkie, you got them from the person in Montague? how did you find them? Are they on BYC? And the answer is yes, the boys are lighter.
I was thinking of getting a cuckoo marans, but i had a friens with barred rocks in an incubator and they were due to hatch same day the 3 i had under a broody. So i took just one egg and hatched it with mine. The 3 i also hatched are a cross between a blue splash silkie rooster and a lavender splash ameraucana bantam hen. I cannot wait to see how they feather in. Here is a pic. They are a few days old.

cuckoogirl they look like they're going to be blue. Do they look that way in real life!? Really cute too.

I think so.............um.......that is real life. But if you mean 'does the picture do justice to how they look' then yes.
The parents are the most beautiful birds, so i had always hoped to find fertile eggs eventually. I could not believe my eyes
when i saw it. The silkie rooster would never go near my ameraucana bantam hen.....only like other silkies. I guess he decided one was cute :) I will post a picture when they get older.

wow those r cuteies!! i wanna see pics too! i've not heard of that cross before. love the color too. that will be awesome to see them grow and what they feather in for u. i'm not sure where that is i got mine from a byc breeder in maryland if that helps. here is a pic of my new babies the cuckoos r the 3 front right.

the first cuckoo was a girl this is a pic after she went to the brooder. the other 2 are boys then. thanks i wanted to make sure which was which. my next batch due to go in the hatcher is byc swap eggs they r d'uccles and to move in 2 days. i think then or a few days after is babies from my girls next then the next set of polish and marans will go in. i have to check the dates on the eggs see when they all move when i go to move the d'uccles.

WOW...i dont have polish because i read too many stories of them getting abused. I dont have enough room to keep them seperate.
I hope someday i live where i can have more different pens. I would love to have room to keep a few unused pens to let the green life grow back up and move them back and forth.

polish are a hoot to raise! u'd love them!! i either keep them seperated or with other crested breeds like silkies or with other bantams like d'uccles, salmon favorolles. i've had them in with other breeds also with no probs includeing standards as long as u have 3 or 4 polish so they don't stand out so much usually they r fine. i always raise mine together from hatch or peeps never had a prob. if freerangeing though they r preditor magnets cuz they can't see. mine r pened so never had that prob.

thank you both! i luv their little hats to and can't wait to see the head feathers when they grow in in a few weeks. i have a w/c blue named cinderella,lol and a red/c red one named belle(my 4 year old princes named them, rotfl). i hope these turn out with gorgous poofs like rella has!! surpriseingly she can see but her poof must be about 5" accross it's huge. belle's is about 2" way smaller. i'll have to take some updated pics sometime of my girls for ya. they r just to cute!!

hey i do that too. i try to keep several bloodlines going in all my pens for each breed. i add new blood when i can too.
