I have 100 miscanthus Giganteus tubors to trade. We are working on a charity garden for a widow we know. We want to have a color theme garden, with each color garden separated by Miscanthus Giganteus "walls" sort of like a maze. The garden will be 120 feet by 80 feet, and we so we dug 600 tubers from our property, and ended up with 100 too many. We thought we could trade members for various plants that bloom, since we need plants that bloom in white, red, orange, yellow, blue, and violet/purple. We are interested in blooming for Summer mostly. If our Miscanthus tubers are planted 3 feet apart, they will make a solid screen within a couple of years. Of course, one or two are neat as a specimen, since it grows straight up for 15 feet, but has a small 3 foot footprint in the garden.

CLOSED: Have Miscanthus Giganteus tubers-6' by Aug, 15' next year
what kind of plants were you looking for?
what about heights, widths and what zone are you in?
I know I have a candylily that is starting to come up now that I can find. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/378/
This is the one that I have
We are in zone 5, and looking for plant of all kinds, as long as they are perennial and hardy to our winters. Butterfly bushes, rudbeckias, bleeeding hearts, lilies, daylilies-i think we will consider all takers until the tubers are gone. I forgot to tell you that this grass has a really cool bloom around September-october that is like a pink broom.
Also, how would you do this, flat rate? I have both color bleeding hearts too. I also have some purple siberian iris.
Flat rate would work-I have been waiting for a white bleeding heart, and the purple iris sounds fun. How many Miscanthus would you want for trading a few of the white hearts and the iris? Remember that these grow quickly-you won't believe your eyes.

I just shot you a D-mail :-)
I would love to trade for a few of your tubers, I have yellow daylilies, a newer form of butterfly bush, I think it gets around 5 ft, tall max....I 'll try to find the tag for it, I also have a small red weigela,How soon are you wanting to trade? We don't show much happening in our gardens yet, I really hope we can work out a trade as I have been searching high and low, for this grass, for the last two or three yearsand havent been able to find it locally. Thanks
Dee
Dees,
I don't know why the local garden centers don't carry it, since it is spectacular even having just one as a specimen. In March you can cut it back, and it gives you "Bamboo' that is as thick as your pinkie, good for training sweet peas or tomatoes. I am interested in the wiegela and the butterfly bush. Are the lilies stellas?
Shadeguy
No, they aren't stellas...they are similar to brocaded gown, I can't say that that is what they are for sure, but they sure do look similar.

Dees,
Yes, let's do a trade. One nice thing about the variety I have (which is not the same as "Miscanthus Floridulis" is that mine is sterile and puts all its energy into growth. I imported these from Germany where they grow it to harvest for burning with coal. I tested the effects of fertilizer by giving nitrogen to half of my plants and none to the rest, and they turned out the same size. I also tested with watering-I didn't water them at all, other than during a 6 week drought we had a few years ago (even the lawn went dormant) and they still flourished. The rootball after years of growth is about the size of a beachball, which means you can plant other things right up against it without them or the new plants seeming to suffer. I put rudbeckias around their legs and they were beautiful. I also liked the fact that even heavy snows and terrible ice storms that play havok with our japanese Maples don't have any effect on the grass. In the winter they go tan colored like other grasses, but have strong canes with a pink "brush" at the top that rustles and murmers in the wind-I always enjoy the winter interest they provide when everything else is "blah" here. I put out some wind chimes in my garden, and the combo of the rustling and the chimes is really nice for those winter days when the temps go up enough to permit us to spend some time outside
