I bought a lovely pyracantha bonsai a few months ago. He is living inside now (since I bought him in winter and didn't want to just toss him outside in the Michigan cold). He's starting to put out a lot of new growth and I need to know what to do with him!
Can anyone recommend a book or two on bonsai care -- maybe a good general book and one that might address the pyracantha in particular? Also, is the pyracantha considered an indoor or outdoor tree?
Thanks,
Barb
Pyracantha bonsai care maybe a book?
Hi Barb,
You did the right thing by protecting your bonsai from frost, congrat!. I would recommend a book by Harry Tomlinson on "The complete Book of Bonsai" A practical Guide To Its Art & Cultivation. Bookamillion.com will have it.
On Cultivation, H. Tomlinson wrote: " Full light or partial shade. Provide some protection in winter: Prolonged exposure to frost or freezing winds can cause damage or winter kill. Some tropical bonsai pyracanthas are now being imported to temperate regions and need winter protection."
Here is an example of his book on Pyracantha or Firethorn:
Fantastic! Thanks, Lily_love! I love that picture -- sure hope I can get my tree to look that nice.
