I LOVE MY NEW CONTAINER!

Nashville, TN(Zone 7a)

These containers are so fun for a great splash of color. You plant it right side up & once the plant is established you flip it over & hang it . The plant then changes the direction it is growing & grows up towards the sun. Coleus did so well I sent the picture to the shop where I bought it. They are going to put it on their websight! I just wish I had bought a larger one!

OK...I'll ask...WHERE did you get it?...And how is it constructed that the plant doesn't fall out???...I'm missin' somethin' here....

It's fun isn't it? This coleus is too big. I have another one that isn't as overgrown. Once the roots are established it stays put. It works with anything that doesn't naturally trail. I bought it at http://englishgardenshop.com/
They ship. I suggest the larger size though.

That's pretty cool! Do you have a picture of the before? Thanks for sharing.

I didn't take a before shot, but I actually rooted the coleus in the second picture in the pot, so that is still pretty young.

I just went and looked at the web sight and there is your picture! You must be so proud. I love your pot by the way.

Hooray! My fifteen minutes of fame! They say strawberries & tomaotes do well in these pots too.

Buffalo, MN(Zone 4a)

That is gorgeous! I actualy bought two of these pots this year-I was planning to but begonias in mine-but your coleus look so beautiful I may have to change my mind. I got my pots at Kinsman Company-they look the same. I'm not sure I dare check out your link-it's not even spring here and I'm already way over my gardening budget (HA! Like I ever really follow one!)

I spoke with the owners today of the shop above. They are going to offer 10% off to DG members. You have to ask for it. They have a bunch of Kinsman stuff.

Teri,
That is one cool pot.

I wouldn't want to hide that pretty blue with a gorgeous coleus! (smile) I'm a blue-aholic. Quite lovely, and coco-fiber 'soil' only $2.95 while you're shipping. xx, Carrie

Carrie- Does that cocofiber work well? I have never tried it. Does it hold the water or is it well draining?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Me neither, but have you read the sticky at the top of this forum? It seemed like a small step for me and a big step for container-kind, but then thought I should check the back corners of Home Depot for something like that. (Last time I sent my husband for potting soil, he brought home Seed Starting Mix with Extra Phosphorus for Roots!) x, C

I have never been good at following directions. :) I bought my daughters a little strawberry kit & it had that cocoblock in it. I used regular soil instead....

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hmmmm. So they wanted you to use that other stuff - I just thought it was a really good price. How did the strawberries turn out? What kind of soil did you use for the coleus, O Famous One, LOL?

It is a good price for the cocofiber. I think it is usually closer to $5. I assume that would work reatlly well in the upside down pots. If I had another pot I would try the strawberries in one.
I bought the strawberry set at Walmart. The plants were molded & I returned them. It's growing now. I just used plain potting soil. I hope they produce. My kids are very excited about it!

terichris...that is one cool pot! Thank-you!

Jo Ann- I popped into Dollar General store the other day killing time before school pick-up. They had the lightweight foam type pots - large- for $10. I bought one. Then I sprayed it very lightly with brown & terra cotta spray paint. I do it in the breeze from a distance. It gives it a little age & more of a natural look. Then I potted sweet potato vine & it was covered anyway! I hadn't been in that store in close to ten years. I'll be back next week!
