telling sexes of young toulouse goslings

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

How would one tell by looking at toulouse goslings which would be male/female. The guy at our local feedstore has always been able to tell by looking at them, but I can't remember what he looks at LOL

I know you can sex them just like they do in the chicken factories, but he doesn't do that, some other features tell him and he's always been right.

And if I purchase them already grown, how could one tell the sex just by looking at them?

any clues?

I couldn't tell the diffrence when they were babies. They only sold them straight run, where I got them, but when they were older, the ganders looked like they were wearing bloomers and the females just had a single flap of skin on their stomachs to cover the eggs with. You can lay them on their backs and actually find the sex organs (It takes guts, these birds are big and strong and my big gander was MEAN), but I've only done that after they were a year old.

i bert hte guy sexed them by feathers or foot size. i have very good luck with foot size with ducks. however, was unable to vent sex a six month old goose. so we ate the wrong one!

LOL poor goose LOL,

I have sexed rheas and emus before as chicks, and it was quite easy with the help of my DH holding them of course. They are bigger than goslings but i'm not going to be in the position that I could do that, so I'd have to be able to tell by looking at them.

poor US! we stopped getting eggs! now we have TWO males and two females, intended on one and three...

but it was a nice dinner none the less...

there doesn't seem to be as large a diff in size with geese as with Muscovies...

Haven't really tried to sex the little guys...We just waited to see who was making nests and setting on the eggs! But then we keep most of them and it doesn't matter what they are unless they are causing problems.
Our geese are usually pretty calm and my Hubby picks them up by holding their wings close to his body...then they nuzzle and make a funny little noise until he puts them down. Gus usually will go after the young males but he groups the young females together! LOL Guess we have to let the expert tell us who is who!

it was an honest mistake. it was the largest goose, and the most obnoxious, so naturally we thought it was a male. and you are supposed to eat them before they get too big. but after Thanksgiving we didn't get any more eggs until this spring, and they are keeping them in a nest. thinking we will have a bunch of baby geese around the second week of april...

yes, my problem is, I don't want a bunch just a couple, male/female perhaps 2 females one male if I can. It' s alot to ask for isn't it LOL

Tamara, I would have thought the same thing, gosh, loud , obnoxious, and large? LOL just playing, males usually are larger ha? I thought they were. Ithought they were meaner too than the female.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

just get a bunch and eat the extras LOL and hope you keep getting eggs! they are the best watch dogs!!! well, ours are white chinese, but i am sure toulouse are too! the one we ate was toulouse or brown chinese...
