Reverse Osmosis

Not sure where to post this question.
We have softened water and are thinking of putting a RO system under our kitchen sink. Does anyone have any reccomendations for Ro systems? I know the positives, but can anyone give me the negatives? Does it substantially increase your water bill?
Thanks for any help,
Jill

We have a RO system (and a water softener), and the water quality is the best. Ours is 'Aqua Pure', but I doubt if there is much difference in system brands. We change the filter cartridges about once a year, but that would probably depend on your usage. We have a separate little spigot on the sink for it. We use it for all drinking water, and for some cooking. It's also great for houseplants, although we collect rainwater for most of that use. I'd recommend it.

Has your water bill and electricity bill increased substancially? Where do you store the waste water?

Also do you have the compact aqua pure model?

I haven't noticed any increase in electricity. We're on well water. There is no waste. As it purifies the water, which comes through the cartridges in a separate line from under the sink, it stores the water in a special holding "tank" which holds a few quarts. Then it stops making more until it is used, so no waste. I don't know if we have the compact version or not. It has two cartridges that we change out about every 14-16 months. It's provided enough water for my wife, son, and me easily. When the "storage tank" gets low, which rarely happens, the water pressure from the special tap on the sink peters out. It fills up again in just a few hours. We did have a handyman install it, which seemed very easy and not expensive. We do enjoy the quality of the water, even though our well water isn't bad as it is. We feel better using this water what with all the farmland around us (nitrates?).

Thank you,
I know what you mean, we have radium in our water, and we need the system , but trying to make a decision on what type of unit has been the most difficult.
Take care, Jill
