DUCK EGG HATCHING

Waynesville, NC(Zone 7a)

MY FEMALE MALLARD DUCK WAS FAT A LONG TIME DOES THIS MEAN SHE HAS EGGS IN HER ABOUT A WEEK OR TWO LATTER SHE IS BACK TO NORMAL WEIGHT WHILE SHE WAS FAT SHE WADDLED WHEN SHE WALK NELT DOWN LOW WHEN SHE WALKED DID NOT FLY OR QUACK OR KLOCK SHE GOT REAL QUITE AND ACTED VERY CLAM AND WALK VERY SLOW. IF THIS WAS BECAUSE OF EGGS HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE THEM TO HATCH I HAVE NOT SEEN HER ON A NEST OR ANYTHING.

You wouldn't notice a weight diffrence while she was laying. Ducks lay about an egg a day and if she has a nest, she will start sitting when she feels she has enough (10 to 15 eggs) Is it possible that she just wasn't feeling well and had her feathers puffed out. (something they do whenthey don't feel well). My duck have been laying for about a month now and one has started to sit. I think I'll remove the eggs though as it's so cold, the chances of hatching are small. Malards are a bit diffrent than domestic as they won't lay over a long period of time. They lay their clutch and are done. If they loose that clutch before they hatch, they will usually lay a second.
