Dallas, Texas, March 2008 -- As a prelude to its fifth annual plant sale, on Friday, April 18, the Dallas Arboretum presents Lone Star Greats: Tough Texas Plants. Jimmy Turner, Director of Research at the Arboretum, reveals results from the Arboretum's 2007 Trial Program research and gives insight on how to incorporate top plants into North Texas residential landscapes. Upon conclusion of the seminar, class participants are invited to a special plant sale preview where recommended plants can be purchased before the sale is open to the general public. The preview sale is open exclusively to class attendees and to all member of the Dallas Arboretum on Friday, April 18, from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM.
The sale will continue, open to the general public, on Saturday, April 19, from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and again on Sunday, April 20, from 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon.

"In addition to gaining valuable insight from our research and trial program, this class gives people who are not members of the Arboretum the exclusive opportunity to attend the Plant Sale preview," said Maria Conroy, Vice President of Education at the Dallas Arboretum. "Award-winning and unique varieties will go quickly, so signing up for Lone Star Greats: Tough Texas Plants gives gardeners a head start on plant shopping."
Cost is $22, or $20 for members of the Arboretum, and includes admission and parking. Lone Star Greats: Tough Texas Plants takes place at 4 p.m. in Rosine Hall, just inside the Arboretum entrance, and the plant sale preview begins at 5:30 p.m. in the main parking lot. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is located on the southeastern shore of White Rock Lake at 8525 Garland Road, Dallas, TX, 75218. The Arboretum is open daily from 9am until 5pm, and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. General admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for children 3-12, and free for Arboretum members and children two and under. On-site parking is $5.
