I had 7 of 9 hatch the other two died. One never pipped but was fully developed with feathers and everything. the other pipped but never hatched out. It was also fully developed. Both that died seemed to not have absorbed all of the yolk. Any ideas on what went wrong with them?

I am very thankful for the ones i did get. I would post pics but i am on dial up and it would take days to upload! Sorry :(

First off i found a great priced resizer that anyone can use (if you don't buy the program they watermark all your pics) and if your computer crashes and burns they will let download again to your new computer or you can if you save the password and not have to contact them. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Did I say I LOVE IT! its very simple and then you can send anything! Click click and its done!!

And secondly there is atleast one webpage that tells what went wrong according to what the embryo looked like. I must say that sometimes that a chick is just not strong enough to hatch, Mother natures why of saving a short pain filled death****my opinion about the painful part

Sheila, I am on dial-up with a 31.2 Kbps speed. If you have a floppy disk player, it doesn't take all that long to upload to this site. That's all I use as my camera uses floppys. I don't know about the cds.

All I do is insert the floppy with the pics, push the "browse" button at the bottom of this page, and viola, the picture is uploaded immediately. Good luck if you can do this.

What kind of chick is that? That's a real beaut. Congrats on the chicks, you had real good # hatch. How many eggs did you start with? Were they shipped or home grown? That looks exactly like the SLW's do.

Good job Sheila, you were able to do it after all.

Cute baby. It's so exciting when they hatch.
We had one last year that hatched but didn't soak up all the yolk. Poor little thing I felt so bad for it. It only lived about 4 days. I agree with LoraK, mother natures way of taking care of things. I don't think it would have been a normal chicken if it had lived.

Scott you are right! They are Silver Laced Wyandottes. I started with 12 eggs. I culled 3 at about 2 weeks. I showed Blood Ring and 2 were clear. 7 hatched and 2 did not even pip. When I further examined the unpipped, they were fully feathered, fully developed, the only thing I could see that was wrong was that they had not totally absorbed the yolk.

I am so proud this was my first ever hatch and the eggs were from my SLW hens and Bert the SLW rooster. Bert should bask in his good job, because he is getting meaner and will not be around much longer. I hate to get rid of him, he is soooo beautiful but he is constantly flogging the kids and now has taken to try flogging me. I am waiting to see what kind of roosters I end up with from the babies.

I am also building a hoop coop to put the SLWs in until I can determine Bert's fate!

I am getting ready to incubate about 30 more eggs as soon as I get the bator cleaned and back up and running. So if you are close and want Silver Laced Wayndottes, I should have some in about 3 weeks.

I wish I were closer to you. I am in Maine, the icy tundra. Thanks, for the offer though!! The wyandottes are perfect for my area, because of the low rose comb not freezing like the single combs. Also the "loose" feathering and round bodies are better in cold temps. Plus, they lay well in the cold weather. Good luck with the little 'dottes.
