I have given in to all your wise advice and am canceling my MMH order. So now where should I get my chicks from?? I want a max. of 25. Nothing to out of the ordinary, bl. australorp, sp. sussex, buff orps, I really wanted blue laced red wyandottes but it looks like that's just a distant dream at this point. Thanks for all the help. Oh by the way I'm in NJ if that helps.
Now where do I order from?
Mommahen -
You may be relatively close to Marquisella, I map-quested it and depending on which Asbury you are in it is either 4 or 5 hours to her. Would make for a nice Sunday drive to hand pick some chicks?
Hi there! If you do go with a hatchery, I say Meyer Hatchery. I just love them.
meyer hatchery, ideal and moyers r all good ones. sand hill preservation(think that's what it's called) i have been hearing alot of good things about lately.

Healthy chicks and more has a good selection of the big and old varieties. They do small orders and mix and match too. Haven't gotten mine from there yeat, but they were great on the phone.
I've ordered ideal and meyers and they were both good. I've never liked M&M. A bit too big and a bit too rude for my tastes.
I'm very pleased with Meyer. The chicks are very healthy and seem much more true to type than the ones I got from Privett. Privett seems closer to MMH in spirit--which is why I didn't order from MMH when my Privett pullets turned into roos. Very glad about that now!
maineiac, I found Marquisella's web site but can't contact her directly,( some sort of default not set on my computer, my fault) Can you give me her infor or pm me pleassssssssse. DH said it sounds like a good day trip too. Good thing we got GPS in the new car. Will she sell day old chicks do you know? Thanks for the help!
I'm probably slow here but when I google Marquisella I don't get a hatchery.
I see there is someone with this name posting on gardenweb. What is the
name of the hatchery you are recommending?
Thanks
Tam
Never mind - I found her. Sterling Center Farm.

Meyer has closed their web site for a bit, I just looked there, If I have to order again, i'll order from ideal
I got chicks from mcmurray, I'm worried about their safety now that i've read that thread .
I just looked up Healthy chicks and more. Has anyone ordered from them? They've got what I want at good prices and when I want them too.

meyers is just not taking online orders.......you can still shop online and call in your order by phone.....the old fashioned way :)
oh ok, thanks for letting me know that.
i will be ordering from meyers when i get the chance. they r upgradeing their site but u can still call in orders, it's not a prob. if u see something not there ask anyway it may just be the site.

Momma hen - Sue needs one month advance notice on chicks, and I only know of her to sell in flocks of 15 for $175. If you contact her by e-mail sterlingsue2000@yahoo.com or on this link http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/BlueLacedRedWyandottes/ maybe she will sell fewer if you drive there?
We ordered from Ideal. So far all are well and growing. We have a neigbor that ordered from Healthy. They ordered 50 hens and got 25 roosters free. They are all well. They only lost 2 but I think they got too cold because they had their chicks earlier than we did and we had some really chilly mornings. They are all feathered out now.
maineac thanks. Have been emailing sue trying to decide what to do. Thanks for the info. Been looking at Welp with a friend too. Just trying to figure it all out. Canceled at MMH at 9am today. They never even asked why.
I ordered 40 Wyandottes from Welp that are supposed to be here tomorrow or Wednesday. I got the 20 from Ideal last week, 7 died from getting chilled, the other 13 look very well. They are sending my replacements with extra males for warmth. Very pleasant to do business with. Hope it warms up this week.
I talked to my state aniaml control officer today. Ideal has been doing fine, no problems. Tx has high state requirements on hatchery health, and they are regularly inspected, so i would say it is safe to go with them. but i would always choose a small breeder or nearby hatchery, esp in your own state, first...
My local source has always bought his at ideal I asked him where he gets his, at he says oh out of Texas, LOL wouldn't tell me where, I checked the chicken box. He charged me almost 4.50 for each of my cockoo marans and welsummers pullets. I just about fell on the floor, Icould have went to ideal and got them for half that. He made a killing off me.
my local guy 's toulouse are 8.00 for both male and female though, cheaper than any place onthe net, go figure. I think i'm going to get my toulouse from him. he didn't tell me where he got them at though LOL
I put in my order today from Welp's with a friend. They seem to have everything that we wanted except BLRW's. They were very helpful and my chicks should arrive on 4/16. Maineiac, let me know how your Welp order arrives, Happy and Healthy I hope.
Well I hope you're right. I love the free shipping from them!
