I usually have my Zinnias planted by seed in FEB, but it's near the end of march. I'm behind because of some re-landscaping, but about to work in the zinnia zones..is it too late to plant from seed, or do you think they're rise to the occasion here in zone 9

Too late to plant Zinnia & Dahlias from seed?
Zinnias are one of the very few seeds I've ever planted. I dunno about Houston, but here in Dallas, I've seeded them as late as April. They bloom about July, when not much else is blooming, and are a very welcome sight.
they can be seeded all thru the warm season for different times of bloom..like marigolds.......I have reseeded areas as late as august here.....
I just planted zinnia seeds last week and have more to plant this week. I don't think you can go wrong with zinnias. As the flower need deadheading, I just let the seeds drift of my hand and I usually get pretty zinnias in my veggie garden up until frost. Plant them anytime. I'm probably 70 miles southwest of you.
Susie
Great..thanks...I'll be planting them this week then.
Hello, I am new to this site but I have really enjoyed reading about your beautiful garden ( Jungle in the Heights). May I ask,,, I read a discussion awhile back about "the recipe". It was a recipe for liquid fertilizer. I can"t seem to find it anywhere. Can you possibly help me? Thank you
jana
Jana, I'm not sure if you meant to post on this thread or not (since there's not a post here from Jungle in the Heights) but I think "the recipe" you are referring to may be found in the brugmansias forum. I've heard talk about it too.
she means Randy--RJ--he's 'the jungle in the heights'
By the way Randy, I just got around to starting zinnias about a week and half ago. Too many seeds, not enough time...
=)
By the way, the "boarded and shored up'" fence is sitting right on top of that vine right now.....a mess.
Here's the Brug recipe page.

On the zinnias, can they take full sun? I have several spaces I'd like to fill that just get no protection at all.
Anne
Absolutely,
Mine get full sunshine.
Susie
RJ...........no problem with zinnias but I wouldn't plant dahlia seed this late.......they don't like the heat of summer down here or in Houston I wouldn't think?
LOL Randy, you are always re-landscaping!! How are you doing? Haven' t heard a thing from you in a long time. Go ahead and plant those zinnias. Won't cost you much will it?
They will probably turn out better than ever.
Jeanette
whoa! I wondered if you were still here at DG. How the heck are ya? Yes, I'm always relandscaping! I took out the brug forrest and left two giant brugs back by the green house. I've keept a few others. I can't believe how tall the brugs get! They are all in bloom right now cream, gold and pink. I cut the white ones back too far.
I've been on vacation all week long, thus my lengthy delay in response. I did get the front free of weeds along the roadside garden..but after all this.,.I can't find the zinnia seeds.. it's so crowded out there anyway.
Hi Deb,
I hear ya...I am just now cleaning up the mess, and it's starting to look good. Now I need to start on the green house which is a mess after vacating all of the plants.
Hi janabarnett
if it helps - I have alot of the recipes listed in this blog that I find around DG- it gets time consuming trying to track them all down.

Oh my goodness. Randy is back at the helm. Listen to me, everybody. Whatever this child says is the absolute gospel concerning whatever plant you are concerned about. Just go to his jounal. Wow! More information than can be absorbed in a month.
PK
No joke - just printed it out - WOW> going to have to read and reread it agian.
LOL, tell that to my poor bougainvillea cuttings.
Hi Christi..Dmail me so we can fine tune April 19th weekend.
Are you having another party, RJ and not telling us about it? I heard about the one last spring from lots of happy folks who went.
As a matter of fact.. I was going to throw it out there to see if folks were interested.
Keep me posted!
Rj, I would love to see your gardens. I know I may be too new on here, but your garden pics I've seen are really so great. I live in Humble and my sister lives in the Heights.
jana
Randy, I was so striken with your beautiful little nymph that I went to the Transcom website. Ordered a toddler girl bending over and looking through her legs. Our 18 month great-granddaughter does that all the time now. I love their products. Thanks for the introduction.
Aloha,
PK
Cool! I do like it alot. I'm thinking of buying bigger statues there..I've been pricing them around here and they are very expensive...
Randy, yes, yes, yes,,, I would love to come over Sun.. You asked where my sister lives,,, She lives in the 1700 bk. of Nicholson. She just moved there but I think you are kinda near there.
How do I send you my email address?
