Hi all, I am new to Dave's Garden. I am from northern New Jersey not far from the George Washington Bridge. I have a small group of white Datura that have come up from the roots for 2 years so far. its the 3rd season I have flowers on it. The seeds where collected in Brooklyn New York and took over a year to germinate in the ground. They were well worth the wait. I also have one Brug that I purchased this year from Franks Nursery and Craft center. It was in a 3 sided box labeled patio plant. I put it outside in a large tub over 40 qts soil. It has not grown tall but puts out small pale green leaves and no buds yet. I have been growing since Feb indoors and out since june. Should it bloom this season? Lots of questions sorry but I love the flowers and can see how the addiction starts. How do I go about getting seeds or trading items from the group. I have a conservatory that was just built on top of my house. Northern exposure with 3 southern skylites.
I'm new to Dave's and Dat's and Brug's
How much are you feeding your brug? On advice from great growers here, I'm feeding every 4-5 days, and I have some that are about to bloom. Trading should start up soon, as soon as my triple purple seeds are ready, I'll be posting them, as will lots of other people.
Welcome to Dave's, get a comfortable chair and go through this entire forum, and you'll know so much more.
tiG thanks for the reply, believe it or not I have only fed all of my plants once this summer. I am trying to get away from using chemical fertilizers and am just realizing the folly of my change. I have a plumeria and a cuban chalice vine that are doing very well with out the feed this year. But that is all about to change others have suffered! Having gone through this thread on Brugs and Daturas I realize that they are heavy feeders and will be paying much more attention to this. I read in another post that they may be hardy in my zone 6b any truth to this? I have a southern exposure at the stone foundation of my house that glads and dahlias have survived for 6 years should I try the brug there?
Thanks for the welcome.
Chaz
Thanks for the welcome karma_Happy_Toes. So far Iam very pleased with what I see here.
chaz, try putting it there, but make sure you take a cutting before frost and keep it in the house over the winter. If you don't want to use chemicals, try a heavy feeding of fish emulsion. Don't know how often with that, karma, can you shed some light here?
Good luck though! this is my first year, and I have 4 that are going to burst forth any day, I'm so excited I check on them every hour almost!! Of course I know from experience with the daturas that it's still days off, but I think they like the attention:)
