Hyacinth Bean Vine question

(Zone 4a)

Has anyone grown these? I am building my pegola this spring and I was thinking of planting one in a pot. Would it do okay in a ground container and have it going up my pergola? Any thoughts? I know nothing of this plant so anything you offer would be great. Thanks.

hello DawnLL

Yes I have planted these for years...I love them ,but they get floppy easily.
The way the flowers come out they look alot like sweet pea's but nicer.
The foilage is very nice too...purplie -burgundy
Best part is once you plant them -you have will never have to buy any more seeds..they produce like crazy -alot like scalet runner beens do.
I planted mine in big window box pots facing south- my zone is 4a-5,depending on micro climate areas.
I even coaxed some in a pot that did well in the house for the winter that gave a little color for me.
As far as getting them to climb---Humm?I know it say's they do--but I never saw any tendrels for them to catch onto...
Hope you have good luck no matter where you plant them...because they do perform well and look lovely!

Have a good day
