Green onions & Bantams...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

...no, it's not a recipe, lol!!!! It's a question: will chickens, Bantams in particular, eat my green onions, if I plant them too close to their chain link fence?? I don't think they eat the onions and, or tops when I feed them, but of course I will try them before I plant. I ask, because there are blue bells and daffodils, etc, in their yard and they don't touch them. I'm wondering if it might be a bulb thing and that they do NOT eat bulbs. Anyone have an idea?? If they won't eat bulbs, I'm going to plant more in their yard to keep it from being so dusty, when it's dry. TIA!!!!!!!

I don't know about bluebells, but they won't eat daffodils because they are toxic. They might not eat green onions because they don't like them. Mine have never touched my onions or garlic, and they have the run of the yard and garden for about an hour or so every evening. Of course nothing's growing here yet, but I noticed this last year.

BTW, I don't have bantams, but standard size.

I assume chickens will eat onions sometimes, since they warn you that it will flavour their eggs....

I'm reading and appreciating all posts, waiting, to hear someone say that their Bantams/chickens ate all their green onions. Thanks, all!!!!

I haven't ever had chickens eat onions ~ well, maybe a cooked one or two, but no, I'd say it was worth a gamble :)
