I could use some advise on what is ailing my fairly new brug. I received it in December and it grew well in the house. A few weeks ago it was moved to the patio and put in a larger pot. It was doing well till the leaves started showing the damage I have photographed for all of you to see. Now the plant cannot tolerate any sun , wilting easily. I have many other brugs but this one is the only one showing this damage. I have just used a systemic insecticide on it and sprayed also in the last two days. Any help would be greatly appreciated. There is no visible webbing. I see no insects. This is the front of the leaf. A picture of the backside to follow.
Super Nova not doing well
I'll bump this thread up for more viewers? And potential help available? It appears your brug's leave is being damaged by some type of leaveminers. Your treatment should work, but use your chemical carefully to prevent damage to the plant itself from the chemical. It has been almost a week, how is your plant responding to the treatment?
That could be two spotted spider mite damage. They will be on the underside of the leaf and are invisible to the naked eye(mine at least). You need a 10x magnifier to see them.
Insecticidal soap will kill them but you will need to spray 3 times at three day intervals. The systemic might also work if it's one for mites.I have used Orthenex ,from Walmart, before switching to organics. It works.
gone2seed:
Question please, the mentioned two spotted spider mites. Do they form webs like other spidermites that I've seen?
I have never seen webs with ts mites. They tend to be very scattered on the underside of leaves. Those little light spots on the leaf top are where they are eating on the underside.
The red mites are the only ones I have had that form webs. There may be others but so far we have only been blessed with ts,red and broad mites.I will take the first two every time.
So you are telling us that TS mites, and red mites are the lesser of an evil than broadmites?
Quietyard, how is your brug doing?
Well, here's the way I feel bout the three types of mites.Red mites....easiest to kill.TS mites a little tougher but still fairly easy. They do require extra treatments or they return
quickly.Brugs suspected of having broadmites go straight to the burn barrel,do not pass go.
gone2seed; Such valuable info. you've just provided. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

Thank you Lily_love for bumping up my question. I used Bayer systemic about two weeks ago and sprayed an organic spray on the leaves. If I put it in any sun it wilts but recovers in the shade on the patio. I was wondering if I had given it to much water and was concerned about a root rot, so I am letting it dry out some but that would not have caused the leaf damage I know. It looked better today. I still see no insects or webbing. Thanks for the info and asking how it was doing. Linda
Spider mites thrive in hot and dry.. Broad mites like cool and wet.
I can keep the brugs from too much mite damage just by showering the undersides of the leaves every morning when I water.. of course, that won't last long.. but it's helpful for a while.
If your brug is rootbound, that seems to make them wilt in the sun faster than if they are in a larger pot.. AND if the pot is black.. that will actually have an affect too! I just transplanted a bunch of seedlings into brown pots and they are really standing up to the sun great!
Also make sure you have plenty of drainage.. they hate wet feet.
Most important? Post pics of your blooms! Sounds like your taking great care of your baby. :-)
Thanks for the encouragement and advise ZZsBabiez! I agree about the black pots especially in Arizona. I wish they would make all those pots in white or tan. This one was repotted from a l gal to a two gallon so it should not be rootbound yet. I do spray off the leaves often because it is so dry here. Well, it is still alive today and standing up fairly well. Time will tell! I do have a Charles Grimaldi cutting that I rooted earlier this year and tho it is not quite a foot tall it has a huge blossom about to open! I made the cuttings above a Y. Looks kind of unbalanced but I can't wait till it opens. :)
Linda, You're going to love CG brug! I've a couple young one too, and I'm in love. lol. I'm hardening up some of tender brugs outdoor. Spring is rather tempermental here.....one day hot another is cold, so I really have to look out for those much loved plants. Thanks ZZ, for your input on how to help caring for the plants. Your post and other experienced growers such as gone2seed are very much appreciated, and an encouragement for us newbies.

This is my Milk & Honey which was just finished with its second flush of bloomer since rooted last July. ☺
Lily I do love my CG brug. This cutting was taken off of a plant I have had for a year just after the frost knocked the leaves off of it. The mother plant has recovered and has new leaves and buds on it now. We recently transplanted it to a half wiskey barrel. Boy was that thing heavy!!! It is a little taller then me. We are keeping it on the patio rather then back out under the mesquite tree. I hope it is happy there because we could never move it now! Love the name Milk and Honey! Are the blooms fragrant?
What a nice frame around your brug blossoms! That is a beautiful picture.
