Does anyone here know of a source for compost starter in Merida or Cancun, Mexico? Or anywhere else in Mexico that can be shipped. Home Depot only has one for toilets. I'm looking for one for garden pits. Also, preferably organic like the one at Gardenerssupply.com. Any leads would be appreciated.
thank you!!!
Compost starter in Mexico
Aloha mx, and welcome!
Although I don't know of sources in Mexico, I do know that Katiebear uses compost starters and she lives in Mexico. Have you checked out the "soil and composting" thread - Bokashi? Great info, and Katie is using this stuff with great results. Hopefully she will see this thread and be able to advise you, meanwhile check the Bokashi thread out, it has great info. I am going to start using this stuff soon, I have found a supplier in Maui!
Good luck!

No, we have a supplier here on Maui so I haven't even tried to contact the BI one. Today is Good Friday and lots of things are closed here, perhaps that's why you haven't had a call back?
Hi - I get the EM products sent to me in the States when I am there. I don't think it is sold in Mexico at this time but you could check with Eric at emamerica.com.
I've made a lot of compost without an "official" starter. If you are near a seashore seaweed is a great compost starter.
Check the posts on lasagne gardening for more ideas. In my experience the seaweed and some dirt (for microorganisms) and maybe some molasses will get the compost going. After reading more you may decide to go with the lasagne method, and cold composting. But if you want to heat up the pile fast, get some seaweed.
