This Clivia seems to be trying to bloom really low. This is the first one I have owned and the first bloom. Will it grow taller over time or did I mess up somehow?

Some do that the first time they bloom. It will probably not get any taller, it looks like the flowers are trying to open.
That happened to my clivia the first time it bloomed. The following year it sent up tall stem. This year it is blooming with quite a big cluster of blooms. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it. It has a very slight fragrance.
