Banksia Bee (Hylaeus alcyoneus)
Is there there a "between larva and full adulthood in which the bug's face is not yet yellow? Is it 1/4 " or could it be longer?
Are the smoky-colored wings longer or shorter than the body?
Thanks...
swarner
The only stage between larva and adult is an inactive pupal stage.
The size for this bee is 12 mm, so yes it is more than 1/4".
The wings are shorter than the body.
This is an Australian Bee, with a very strong association with the flowers of the Banksia genus. The bee that I photographed was found collecting pollen from flower-heads of Banksia marginata.
