I have 2 dogs. One is a boxer "Polly" and another is a Katrina rescue Shepard/ Lab mix "Jack" (Actually born in the shelter after Katrina).
They are both extremely destructive. We had them in our garage one night because it was cold and they dug holes in the sheet rock and dug out the insulation. They tore up pretty much everything that wasn't nailed down.
We moved them outside permenantly, and they have DESTROYED our back yard. Jack ate a hole in the fence and gate. We had to put a container full of bricks outisde the gate to keep him from opening it.
We had them in a kennel, but they have learned to move it off of the foundation and get under the bottom support. Then Jack literally TORE a hole in the gate to the kennel (chain link) so it's useless.
Now they have started digging holes in the yard, and chewing on the A/C unit outside. This is the last straw.
We have talked to our vet and she said they are suffering from anxiety becuase they do not have much room. The back yard is about 100X30 and they have run of the sides of the house up to the gate which are each about 75X20.
We cannot put ANYTHING outside because they will tear it up. Jack chewed on a piece of flagstone until it was the size of a pebble. Polly has dug holes deep enough to be buried in.
What do I do? I can't afford a Dog Counselor, or whatever they would be called. The vet seems to think they need more room.
I love both of them to death and it kills me to get rid of them, but I can't have them tearing up my yard. We don't even go in the back yard anymore other than to feed them or play with them. I don't want to separate them because they are BEST friends. Jack had to have surgery once and Polly was a MESS the whole time he was gone. When he got home she slept on top of him for a week.
I know this isn't anyone else's problem, but I have no idea what to do. Can anyone help?
This is Jack:
What do I do? I'm really upset about this.
