Where are the seeds?

San Gerardo de Rivas, Costa Rica(Zone 12b)

Not sure if this is the right Forum or not for my question, but I'll post it anyway. There are tons of Malvaviscus arboreus growing all over the place here and I keep searching for seeds. Are they as finicky as they seem, or reluctant to set seeds? They certainly aren't lacking in pollenators because the hummingbirds can't leave them alone, lol! This is also known as Turk's Cap or Sleeping hibiscus, but you already know that. I have tentative trades set up with people who really want these seeds!

I must admit I drool profusely when I look at the photos posted here, especially of the seedlings that a few people have created - wow! Wish I could have 1 of each one.

Thanks!

I've never seen seeds on any of mine. I imagine they must form seeds under some conditions, but my thought is you may have to hand pollinate if you really want any.

Thanks a lot ecrane3. I could start doing that just to get a small supply of seeds for trading. Are yours all red or do you have the white one too? I'd love to get my hands on a white!

I'm not sure what I have at the moment--I definitely have a red one, and at some points in the past I had white and a couple different shades of pink, but I've managed to lose several along the way. If I still have the pink or the white they're in my greenhouse somewhere so I won't find them until our nights warm up a pinch and I move everything out for the summer. All my non-red ones came from Kartuz Greenhouses, it's a mail order nursery here in CA. I'm not sure if they ship international though and it was a couple years ago that I bought them so I'm not sure if they have them anymore or not.

Thanks again ecrane3! Most of the American growers or retailers will not ship outside the Continental U.S., even to Canada unfortunately. Shipping to C.R. would be even more problematic but in either case, a Phytosanitary Certificate would be absolutely necessary, and very expensive! Monrovia in California has so many things I'd love to have, just to name one place in particular. I can't get bulbs shipped here either, such things as the Giant Tecolote Ranunculus that I want so bad, lol! Oh well, boo hoo!

Thanks for all your help!
