Miners Claim

Cave Creek, AZ

This is the Miners Claim I got. It's a little smaller than my Snowbank. The color is not as white either on the Miners Claim as on Snowbank.

I love variegated foliage! I have both Miner's Claim and Snowbank. I agree the Snowbank leaves are more dramatic, but the Miner's Claim has multicolored leaves that I find pleasing. Snowbank is a slow grower. Mine has yet to "Y". It can't stand direct sunlight here in central Texas. So she is either in the shade house or in the greenhouse. Miner's Claim can handle early morning sun without a problem. She grows a bit faster than Snowbank.

I gave up on Moners Claim, after many tries, I lost everyone before I ever saw a bloom.

I wasn't able to find Miner's Claim over the Internet, but found it at a nursery in Half Moon Bay, CA on a visit with my sons. I had to cut it into several pieces to mail it home. All the pieces rooted. I became the happy owner of five plants. The mother plant put out a small flush. I loved the variegated buds.

She was still in the greenhouse when she bloomed so I'm not sure what her blooms would have looked outside. Unfortunately, that was her one and only flush. Not too long after that, I became very ill after surgery and I lost most of my Brugs including my Miner's Claim. I was able to buy another which arrived two days ago. I look forward to more flushes. As you can see, she had a slight problem with spidermites at the time.

bettydee,
Thank you for posting your flowing Miners Claim. I do like it indeee! I hope I will be able to keep mine alive and get a few blooms.
Do you still have the plants?

Not the original ones. They were among plants that died when I was too ill to go out and water them last summer. The only ones that survived were those whose roots had grown out through the drainage holes and into the ground. I just bought a new one from Plants Delight Nursery. It arrived two days ago.

The only problem I seemed to have with the original ones is that they tended to attract spidermites. If my Brugs got them, Miner's Claim was one of them. Thank goodness spidermites are easier to handle than broadmites.

Axelrose is a green-on-green and can take sun or shade. My only problem is in rooting it. I took a flat of cuttings and not one rooted. I did root some of the large trunks.

Ken,
I would have been sick to put in so much work and have not a one root.

My Miners Claim will not die. I left it out in the cold unprotected, but she hung in there. Last year it died down to the roots after a hard freeze, but came back in the Spring. It has nice enough foliage, but never gave me enough blooms to make it worth the work. Tough love. LOL If I fussed over it I'd probably find it dead within a week.

Mpabbott1,
Mines Claim is such a pretty plant I don't care if it flowers or not. It would be nice if I get flowers but I love the leaves.
I don't want to leave it outside at this point. I want it to get big. I don't want to start from scrach in the spring. I may at some point change my mind.
Mickey
