We are having lots and lots of rain and the poor birdies are doing the best they can with the situation. The following pics I managed to take from an open window. I felt so sorry for them!
I think there are about 18 pics in all...lots of them are Finches!
American Goldfinch
Rainy Day Birds
These pictures are amazing! Thankyou for sharing. Did you use a telephoto lens to get such closeups? What kind of camera?
Rose,
Great pics! Lucky you to have Purple Finches! The birds here have been getting as wet as the ones there too.
We've been getting lots of rain too, since Monday night and it hasn't stopped. Heavy rain at times and it's suppose to keep raining through Wednesday night, at least.
Marilyn
Wonderful pics Rose!
We have the rain now too.
Thanks khyho, Marilyn and Pelle. The rain has finally stopped but has left a lot of flooding in the area...some got over 9 inches!
Our new pond is completely filled and running over.
Khyho...I have a new Canon 40D and used a l00-400mm zoom lens. It is new and I am still trying to figure out how to use it and what all the many buttons are for!! It is a challenge (old dog...new tricks)!!
Rose!! Wow on the pond. Pictures????
That's a cute chubby turtle.
Hope you dry out. As in outdoor drying, not as in get sober. ;)
That Turtle looks happy and content!
Marilyn
Mrs. Ed...I'm glad I don't have to get sober!! It finally quit raining and the sun came out this afternoon...had to wear my sunglasses!
Marilyn...That turtle was hugh...I would say the shell itself was about 10 or 12 inches and the poor turtle looked really old!
HEE HEE.
Glad it got sunny!! Maybe your birds are dried out now.
great pictures Rose, looks very wet in those pics. Those birds must be enjoying the sunshine, after such a long shower. Love the expression on your purple finch.
Do you know what kind of turtle that is?
My sister and I found some baby snapping turtles last September. She had worked the soil around the foundation of their cottage, and we think she might of disturb this nest, without realizing it. Anyway that night, we seen 6 baby snapping turtles coming from where she had worked the ground. They stayed around for a long time. They were so cute.
Thank you Burn. I think the turtle is a snapping turtle...and it really did snap too!! They are so cute when they are babies aren't they?
We are enjoying the drying up period and the sun as well...I won't complain though knowing the weather you have to deal with. ;0)
And yes the birds are drying up nicely.
Thats a beauty Rose! Lots of detail.
Thanks Pelle! I think we have more Finches now than we did during the cold of winter!! And they are eating like there is no tomorrow!!
Wonderful pictures dellrose! That male Cardinal looks angry enough to bite someone and that poor female cardinal looks like she'd like to cry! Those poor little finches. Birds faces are NOT expressionless, are they?
This weather stinks!
GG
Whew! Glad noboby has too get sober!! lol My youngest gd found a bay snapping turtle once and tried to pick it up. She learned the lesson NOT to do that real fast!!
Great pics, rose!
Thanks GG and Nanny...I hope your weather clears up...we are still soggy but at least the sun was out today!
Can you imagine how deep the snow would be if that rain of yours was snow!!! We have a winter advisory for tonight/tomorrow. Honestly, can we have spring yet????
Hi Mrs. Ed! I cannot imagine what it would have been like, had it been snow! This rain is still causing the rivers to flood and many have not crested yet. It is a real muddy mess but we are not supposed to get any more rain for a week. I will be glad to have the mud dry up. I have to wear my muck boots everyplace outside!!.
I think the Goldfinches think it is spring...this is the most yellow I've seen so far this year. He was swaying high in the tree and I was swaying trying to hold the lens steady so a bit out of focus.
Nice pic Rose!
We had bad winds here too w/ 50mph gusts.
Thanks Pelle! I'm just kind of wondering if we might be getting some migrating Goldies? We seem to have more now than we did during our cold snaps. We also have Purple & House Finches showing up in numbers. I think I'm going to have to start charging them for all the seed they are going through. One good note though...the Starlings seem to have decreased and I think maybe the Grackles are keeping them away. My first spring of birding and I am clueless!
Hey, send some of those Purple Finch my way, would ya!!!
Nanny you need to do what DH accuses me of doing, paint a big X on your roof! All the birds flying over will stop...no kidding! LOL!
Hmmmm.....LOL!
