My obscura and KQ and KP were doing great, sending out new branches and leaves and such.
I just noticed yesterday that a few leaves yellowed and fell off of the obscura. And on all three
the tips of the new growth is yellowing and dying back ! :( I don't know what is wrong ? I wonder
if I am overwatering them ? I wonder because that's what I do to plants, only it doesn't bother
anything else but orchids and hoyas !! I hope that's all it is since I'm so fascinated with hoyas
now and thought that I was doing ok growing the few that I have.
Hopefully the pic comes out well so you can see what I'm talking about.
Thanks,
Paula
Is this from overwatering ?
HI... Every so often the growing tip will yellow and die. CAN be too much water, not enough, growing the wrong way, doesn't like what you cooked for dinner...etc. snip it off and count on new growth!!!! It would only be too much water if the soil is NOT draining well....H. obscura loves high indirect light and LOTS of water...but the soil has to be very chunky and fast draining!!!

Hey Carol !!
Well, I tend to think it is overwatering, just because I have a heavy hand. You might
be right about the soil, but I'm not sure what to do about it. It is completely rootbound in the pot and I can't break it up to get any soil out to repot it. It is all stuck together. The soil ( if there is still any ) is 'swampy'. It's greenish and sorta like mud. Which is why I can't tell if it is all roots or some funky soil... Should I just repot it in a slightly larger pot with more soil ? Or should I take the hose to it and try to break it up ?
The funky muddy yucky soil is probably the culprit!!! I would take it out and gently wash the soil away from the roots...if some roots get busted it won't kill the plant. Then pot it up with new medium...something lighter with chunks and bits in it...they NEED air around their roots.
Say...give me a call one of these days!!!
Carol
