HOORAY! He's back!

Hahira, GA(Zone 8b)

YEAH! YIPPEE!! Saw my first hummer of the year yesterday - put my feeders out Sunday late afternoon - my sage is not blooming yet, but it's WARM here, so, I took a chance... & Monday morning, as I sat on the back porch, sipping my coffee - he came to sip, too! Just one, so far, a male - hope some others join him soon! Samantha

Congratulations!

Sounds like you're going to have a pretty good hummingbird summer! And starting early too!

Congrats!!! I keep telling myself I need to get the rest of the hummingbird feeders out and to start making more :o)

So far have only one up that kept the few hummies that didn't leave my yard happy throughout the winter months...but I know in a few weeks time there will be hoards of them fighting over feeders and flowers :o)

Gotta love it!

Cute feeder, Cat. : ) Did you make it?

Cat - I envy your creativity & resourcefulnes w/ your gorgeous little feeders! They're awesome! Samantha

Thank you Samantha :o)

Yes, Lucy...I make my own small hummingbird feeders.

When the hummies start gathering by the dozens I pull out the 32 ounce jar feeders and hang them from my back porch eaves...but I also hang out numerous tiny feeders I've made using recycled insulin bottles and test tubes.

Those small feeders can be found throughout my yard hanging from trellises, tree branches and others are staked in my flower beds. They help minimize the fights and keep the hummies flying all around my house in search of them :o)

Here's an old link that shows different ones I've made.

They really do work well in hanging baskets too :o)

Samantha, did you report your sighting on the hummer map?
So glad to hear they may be on their way to my house. Feeder's Up!

edit to say: Well, according to the map, they should be in my area too. I thought I got a glance of "something" streak by my window the other day. Hoping it was a hummer and not a fast moving bee, I went ahead and put my feeder up. But, I haven't seen one for sure though.

cordele - I went to the map & recorded my sighting - Wow - thought I was a little early, but actually a little late - I was gone, though until Thursday night! He's probably been lurking around awhile - I'm suprised he didn't hover in front of my kitchen window like he (or somebody) did last year to let me know they were out of nectar (or it was old!) - "Hey, lady - get with the program here. . .!" LOL Samantha

Love the feeder, Cat, and thanks for that link! I put out some blown glass feeders but they will NOT hold suction so the nectar just drips out. You've started some creative juices, I think!

I saw my first one this past Friday, and had the first dive-bombing (bird on bird) Sunday. Spring is here!

Whaho and yippee! Today I was lugging pots and palelts ad dirt and bricks and in and out and in and out and was getting very exhausted and was movign some plants aroudn to get more sun when I hear the buzz.

I have been battlign bees and wasps the past few days and figured i was either a bee or mosquito( nasty critters are biting and out)

Well I decided to tak eme a break adn get some water before I passed out and while I was sitting I looke dup and there was one of my hummers.

I just got my feeders back out this morning. Had put them up and had them out of sight and forgot all about them. About two hours later there was my one baby. Thirsty, was sittign on feeder sipping for a logn time. Didn;t notice anybody on my other feeder, and thought oh fudge onyl oen came back. But later there was the secodn one fightenign with the first one.

Now I just hope the third baby comes. I was afraid for it, it was so tiny and so young and was the last to leave. it didnt' leave til almost two weeks after everybody else was gone, so I hope the tiny tike finds it way back again.

So today I offically got BUZZED! : ))))))))

Congrats everyone on your hummers returning! It must be officially SPRING!!!

I'm still holding my breath! Mine is STILL here since November. It's a female and she seems quite content to stay! (Or at least I am hoping.) I wonder if it was a migrating RTH would she have been gone by now heading north?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

If she's happy there, why would she leave? Do they stay all year in some places?
