achimenes mystery

Midland City, AL

I have a bunch of achimenes plants multiplied from a plant passed on to me by my mother (they were starts from her mothers' plants). We have always been mystified to why they tend to get brown spots on the leaves...usually kind of late in the season. Can someone please explain? I'd thought perhaps it was water on the leaves, tho that didn't pan out as the ones growing in the ground seem less likely to get spots. Any help would be appreciated.

Mine get spots when the sun gets too hot, maybe that's it?

But....you would think if that's the case, the ones in the ground would also get spots wouldn't you? Had some that got quite a bit of direct sun during the morning, and they did well. Of course it might be that the plant beside them was actually providing more shade than I'd realized. Hm, will have to try to notice that more this year.
