Green AVs for St. Patrick's Day!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I included some photos in today's article, http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/886/, but I know some of you make a point of collecting African violets with green in their blooms.

This is the day to show them off!

Let's see some photos of lovely GREEN African violets!

:-)

Here's Optimara Little Crystal, not a speck of green in her blooms but I love the bright green foliage, and of course the pot seemed appropriate...

Really cute AV and nice pot she is in. I don't have one blooming AV and haven't had for a while.

Mine were looking pretty sad over the winter also, but I've got a few flowering now... It doesn't have to be one that's blooming today! :-)

I've never really noticed much green in 'Cloud Puff' (although it's mentioned in the description), but you can see some green on the buds in this photo.

Well, I am really lateon this thread, but here is a green violet that is on its last leg...it is literally about to fall off, but it is a neat and unusual "green violet"

That's a really gorgeous green edge on that bloom -- wow!

I'm not sure, but looking at the center of that flower I wonder if you've got a seedpod or two forming... ? If so, that would be a fun one to grow out!

I don't now what the seeds look like, but the new flowers coming up(they should be up and blooming in a few more days) have those same sort of globs in the middle.

That picture is of a very old bloom. A newer bloom is pure white with lime green edging(with none of that pinky~brown color).

I guess it is possible they are seeds, since it very well could have been pollinated at the nursery. I will set those on the soil, just in case.

Thanks for pointing that out

Just don't pick the flower off... If there's a seed pod, you'll see it after the bloom drops off. That bloom just looked a little "different" to me in the center, but since I don't think I've ever had a seed pod on mine, I don't really know. :-)

I really love the frilly dilly.

oops...:0(
The flower has already been pricked off. :0(

Don't worry... try it with another one, if you're curious! You could probably play "bee" and hand pollinate the blooms, even.

it was in a nursery with a lot of really neat african violets,so if it were crossed, it could have been special. ...I probably just made a real boo-boo by snipping that off...lol
*sigh
