I have harvested a lot of radishes from my raised beds for the last couple of weeks. Only about a third of them actually made anything but humongous tops. The roots I did get were very good. I haven't fed them any more than the snap peas next to them that look perfect. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
I guess I need to pull them up and replant. Also, can you eat the tops since that is all I seem to have?
Radish Problems
Lots of folks here, use the tops for boiling greens. Claim the flavor is similar to collard. You are probably doing all right. You may get a better ratio of root to top, by increasing potash and/or decreasing nitrogen. My white icicles are erratic, but eventually all form radishes, unless they bolt. I don't mind because it spreads out the harvest.
It is the white icicles with the lowest amount of root to top ratio. I'll give them another week or so and see what happens. I wonder how the large oriental radishes will do here in the deep south?
Thanks for your help.
