Very Nice! Are you going to put any spitters or fountains in? A bamboo dripper would look great there and help alleviate the misquitos that it might attract.

nicely done. do you happen to know how many gallons of water your container holds? just curious.

I doubt I'll add movement to it lol, I gotta save up for a waterfall for the bigger pond. Would look neat though.
I havent the slightest idea as to how many gallons it is LOL.
It's one of those huge cook pots people put in their fireplaces/campfires.

Very pretty, I love your driftwood, and if you have any issue with mosquitos you can throw a mosquito "dunk" in there (available at Home Depot or most anywhere). Love the pot, the whole thing is lovely!

Nice pond Jocie. Did any of your fairy moss (azola) make it thru the winter. I am looking for a small amount for my pond.

Hi,
Boy, I just love the way you have put this together :) Can I ask how you keep the water so clear and clean? Dip so much out every other day? I have a kettle about the same size, looks like I could try and make a mini pond out of it?
Wonderful pictures! I hope all the snow we have had brings up the water levels in my pond?

I didn't do anything to keep the water clean.

Here's what I did.

The bottom has regular yard clay as a substrate. Under the clay I added homemade composte.
Make sure you top it with a good layer of clay so debris doesnt float around.

Then I planted it with Bladderwort, a Waterlily, Reeds, Azolla and Flag Irises and whatever else I had laying around.

The Azolla floats on top and covers about 1/3 of the waters surface. This keeps too much algae from forming.
The other plants filter it and also help keep it clean and shaded.
It's in full sun so I can't add fish (even with all the plants, the metal container gets pretty hot, that and i am not sure about fish in an iron container, lol.

You could add a handful of minnows if the container is fish safe.

As long as it holds water you can use anything to do a watergarden!

I never changed the water, just topped it off as it evaporated.

Thanks for commenting!!
