What is eating my tulip leaves?

Pasco, WA

I am a beginning gardener and I was thrilled to see my bulbs begin to come up after planting them this fall, but the tulips that are the farthest along look like they are being eaten by something. What do you think is eating them, and what do you think I should use? I have not seen much insect activity yet - it is still pretty cool (40s to 50s). We do have slugs - at least, I see their trails sometimes in the morning. Can they do this? Specific recommendations would be appreciated - thanks! Barb

I am having the same issue with my tulips. I assumed it was the bunnies we have around. They always feast on my pansies. I usually put bloodmeal down when I plant and that keeps them away. I didnt put any on the tulips yet but I will now..

I just read that if the tear is more jagged than smooth, it is probably deer that are eating them. If it is a very smooth cut, like a lawnmower went over them, it is probably rabbits.
Ropel, Liquid Fence and Deer Off work really well for me. Reapply every week or two as new growth is appearing. Don't forget other spring blooming bulbs, too. The only thing I haven't had deer eat are the daffodils.
