What did you order/hatch for yourself this year?

Woodsville, NH

I placed an order with Ideal and posted a couple of places so anyone local could add to my order I couldn't help myself and ordered almost one of everything everyone else ordered so I ended up ordering:
Silver Spangled Hamburgs (one for me too)
New Hampshire Reds
Marans
Naked Necks (four for me too)
black Australorps (one for me too)
Barred Rocks (one for me too)
Amerucanas (2 for me too)
Silver Blue Modern Bantams (those both are mine I thought I would add something completely different to my mix)
Everyone is ordered pullets except the moderns only come straight run so I have my fingers crossed.

So with my silver and golden sebrights, marans, silkies and guineas it should be a good mix. Did I miss anything???

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Conroe, TX

We ordered from Ideal. We got our first batch Thursday. Silver Sebights, Birchen Cochins, Blue Silkies, Australorps. and Buff Orpingtons. Our second order will have Blue Cochins, Americanas and Golden Phoenix (2 hens and one rooster) (my daughter wanted a long tail rooster so we got him, the rooster, 2 hens so he would have some of his own kind)

Clarksburg, MO

Well this is what I have so far. 25 Cornish Cross for the freezer. 9 Brown Leghorn Pullets (lost one), 12 New Hampshire Red Pullets, 8 Buff Orpington Pullets, 12 Black Sex Link Pullets, 8 Rhode Island Red Pullets, and 13 Plymouth Barred Rock from a straight run. I will be adding these to my 9 Silver Laced Wyandottes and Bert the SLW rooster. Plus I am trying to hatch some SLW eggs and have 9 left in the bator, due on the 31st or 22nd. So if everything lives and hatches I will have a total of 106 babies. I THINK I AM CRAZY. LOL

Northern Michigan, MI(Zone 5a)

Well so far I have hatched (they are brooding now)

3 blue maran
1 gold cuckoo maran
1 black maran
3 from an assorted dark layer ::maran, barnevelder, welsummer
2 mottled orps
1 brahma mix
2 blue orp x buff orp
2 silkies
2 silkie x cochin
6 asst standards from my flock. I'm getting a lot of blue. 1-looks like my blrw did as chicks, another looks like my chantecler chicks did. The rest are blue so it's harder to say.

I am currently incubating ::
another dark layer asst of maran , welsummers, barnevelders
barred rocks
5-leghorns from 2 different swaps
3-4 australorp mixes (I think)
a couple wyandottes (they aren't looking promising, don't think they shipped well)
blue and black orps
12- banty salmon faverolles (I need them to go w/the pair I have..lol)
1 dozen welsummer eggs
and last but not least 10 asst bantys from my flock

And yes I already have commitments for more eggs coming, it's a sickness.

Great assortments! There are going to some great looking yards this summer! Is it the white faced black spanish? Very unique looking chicken hmmmmmm I think I am adding some silkies to the order maybe I will add a spanish or two.......

I forgot all about my incubator!! I have 16 mixed banties from silver and golden sebrights, silkies and possibly some marans (one was 1/2 last time!) 10 marans (hopefully marans or marans/guineas) and one lone guinea! I just looked at the calender and they are due next weekend!! The guinea the week after. I have as many marans as I can hatch sold at $3 each. I told them they were not chocolate brown eggs, everyone wanted them anyways.

awesome!

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Lora, are the Marans bantams or standard size? Thanks.

Woodsville, NH

Regular size, there was a quite a few emails about the banty marans on the yahoo groups for marans. do you belong to them? If not I can give you the address.

Woodsville, NH

Bad TamaraFaye! I added some silkies to my Ideal and I added two White Faced Black spanish pullets and a roo! So in a couple of months you will see what they look like.

Northern Michigan, MI(Zone 5a)

You're right I do need buckeyes....lol. They are winter hardy, or so I read !!

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Lora, I am not interested in banty anything. I appreciate anyone else liking them, but never have been able to get a feeling for them. So, if I decide to get anything like Marans, it would have to be regular size ones.

Thanks

Hey Lora!

( What a nice girl that Lora is, she let me add on to her order, too!)

I just lost 10 chickens this week. I'm so bummed. If you've got any extra silkies kicking around in that incubator, you just let me know! :)

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

yippee! now, fo rmy bad behavior, do i have to incubate some of their eggs next year?

DH can build some more pens this coming winter!

Woodsville, NH

TF I am going to seperate them in about Feb so I can get pure ones, they say you need to wait about month after seperating them to make sure there isn't any other sperm still around, thats what I heard anyways. If I am wrong please someone tell me. So hopefully you can have some nice Spanish next spring! I love to share my eggs, its like spreading happiness!
BYH- what happened? Thats horrible. I am not sure if I will get any pure silkies. If you want some of my mixed chicks or eggs to hatch let me know. I did order some silkies today and added 3 blues if any were available, you are welcome to those if you want. I have extra calico and red roos that you can have for free. I wonder if Diane still has those nice roos for free??? She had a cuckoo! I wish I had more hens, I would have scuffed him up. I want to go to the livestock auction, if I see any there I will get them for you. Now I just have to figure out where and when they are!!
We are adding on another 10x10 this summer, just don't tell my Mother, she says chickens get all diseased after a year, keep them thru the summer than get rid of them in fall that what she says. She actually told the woman that picked up the chicks I hatched that they only live a year two tops then die of a disease! Thats the last time I leave chicks at her house to be picked up by someone! (yes I left the whole brooder to keep them happy and warm) Sheesh, I had to call the woman and explain my Mother was wrong. No matter how old you get they still THINK they know best!!
Let me know BYH!

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Granny, I'm starting with some Marans this year.. maybe by next spring I will have extra to share with you, regular size.

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Gee, thanks. I think I might be interested in dark egg layers. I have Aussies and 1 RIR roo now, but think Rocky might have passed his prime for virility. The other roos are Aussies which will make my flock all Aussie. I am thinking of diversifying again tho.

TF, thanks for you getting that cool-light candler. I saw what you posted and went on and bought one myself. I LOVE IT!! I tried it today and although it might be too early to tell anything, it really worked good. So, again, thanks.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

;-) gotta let kids have computer for now! bye... ;-(

Woodsville, NH

More of my eggs hatched this past weekend, they were placed under a broody hen by a friend, she is very pleased with them! Two look like very much like my calico silkies when they hatched last year, very feathered legs, black skin, extra toes, one is a silver sebright/silkie mix and one is golden sebright/silkie mix.

So cute! What is the yellow spotted? is it the calico silkie? And what is the black one with the brown face? It's looking right at the camera, so adorable.

Woodsville, NH

If they are like the ones I hatched, the golden faced one is golden sebright silkie cross, or it could be a marans golden sebright cross! and the light one should be a silver sebright silkie cross. They are cuties!
I wonder if the hen that hatched them wonders why they are all different and none look like her!!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

aw, they are adorable, and the hen loves them all the same! thanks for sucha a sweet picture!

tf

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

I would love to see them all grown up.. I bet they will be beautiful and unique!

Conroe, TX

Can you imagine what the hen would be thinking if she could tell they were all different (and of course if she could think).
Where did I get these? What was I drinking? Who snuck these in on me? What happened to my babies?

We had a hen sit on eggs last summer. The only one that was hers broke. She had quite a mix as well because our rooster is a sexlink and we have a variety of hens. She was an australorp. The rest of the hens were RIR and a barred rock. The barred rock chicks looked like barred rock but the rest had some of the oddest mixes of colors. One that turned out to be a rooster had a lot of white feathers and we have no white hens.

Woodsville, NH

Smedgekles you must like a colorful yard too! I will make sure I post pics of the chicks as they grow, she has already sent more pic!

Conroe, TX

Yep, colorful! Wish I had more land and space to put even more.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i have not had good hatch rates with shipped eggs, but plenty of chickies running around from my own flock!

my favorite [not eaten yet!] a Giant Buckeye... [cross of Buckeye and Black Jersey Giant]
