Kentucky Coffee Tree seedlings... Have too many

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 4a)

As an experiment in class I grew Kentucky Coffee Tree seedlings (Gymnocladus dioicus)

I've got several now with great roots, from 6-14 inches tall. Its a nice tree and it will grow most anywhere, but I don't have any room for it. I've seen one bonsai-d before, but as with any bonsai... that'd take a while to do. The stems are just now starting to turn a bit brown and woody. I'd like to trade for either plants, seeds. or flimsy advertisement magnets (Final project for a design class... sounds crazy and it sorta is), but I also might let a few go for just postage if somebody just really wants one.

If you want to trade plants... I'm interested in HOUSE PLANTS (man do I need something to brighten my room), succulents, & veggies esp. hot pepper & good tomato starts. I'm pretty much open to anything though.

Happy planting to all!

I only have my tropicals listed so far but I have lots of hardy shrubs, perrenials and aquatics not listed yet, peppers and tomatoes, and I wiuld love one of your trees. I grew an heirloom tom. last year, mountain pride, a yellow, that is the best tom. I ever grew, please check my list and if you don't see what you want just ask, as only about 1/2 my plants are listed.

Sounds like an interesting plant, I would love one. I have a great houseplant you might be interested in. Would you like to trade one of your plants for a bird's nest plant, Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii Silver Frost'? If your not interested in that I would also sent postage. Let me know what you thing about this offer.

Great!! Can't wait to hear from you. Hope you get better soon. It seems in college you always get sick at the worst times.... I turned 21 this past year and was sick for three days over my birthday and that was before my friends could take me out. :)

Just so you all know, I've not forgotten you. Just got out of the hospital, and I'm banned from going outside for a while until I recover. I can't go out to check how many saplings I've got left, so I can't guarantee anyone else more trees yet, but feel free to post and I'll give them out first come first serve until I run out.

Hi: You are in my prayers for a speedy recovery. I know how frustrating it can be to be cooped up in the house with lots to do outside. I would love to get one of your trees if you have any left. I realize it may be a bit before you can see how many you truely have. Please look over my list and let me know if anything strikes your fancy. Please do so now so that I can put aside a plant for you even if I don't get a tree I am sure we can work something out. Take care
Dave

How big do they get? Are they an ornamental, or a full blown tree?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Gymnocladus dioica 60 - 80 ft may spread 30 -50 ft. Light canopy so growing plants under it should be easy. Listed as poisonous from the pulp arround the seeds.

i take care of these 2 little ladies during the week. for therapy i planted a tomato garden over there. unbeknownst to them they are being moved in about a month and i have to move all the plants or the owner will destroy them. they have been in the ground for several weeks but are still small because it has rained for weeks and they are not in good sun either. i think they are celebrity tomatoes and there are 6 or 8.

i still need to research this tree but the comments were so interesting that i just wanted to let you know i was interested.

are these native trees?

Just wanted to mention that this post is from last year (look at the date) so I am sure she probably got rid of them. I was interested too, but noticed the date. Another reason to CLOSE it when its finished.

Last year this person agreed to a trade for refrigerator magnets for some art project in trade for the Kentucky Coffee Tree seedlings. I sent my end of the trade but never heard back from this person. MEMBERS BEWARE!
