Hey everyone! I hope that all of you are having fun starting seeds like I am. I sure do love this time of year! I have a question that I know many of you may be able to help me with.
I have been having a hard time getting my onion seeds to germinate. Is there a trick that I am missing? Do you need to soak the seeds at all? I am only getting a few to germinate and was wondering if maybe I am putting them too deep as well. I just have about a 1/4" of soil on top of them. I also have them on a heat mat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Onion question
You may have too much heat, onion seeds germinate in cold ground. Other than that, you seem to have everything under control. My only experience is with in ground or cold frame planting.Never had any germination problems. Onion seeds have a short shelf life, so you do have fresh seeds right?
Famerdill~ Thanks for the reply. I used seeds I purchased this year from a local nursery and also some came from Sandhill preservation. I am sure that they are fresh seeds. I bet it is the heat mat. Thanks for the info. I will try and see if I can get some to germinate without the heat mat.
